Low Blood Sugar Levels
Low Blood Sugar Levels

Hypoglycemia Can Lead To Coma or Death!

I have had diabetes for over 27 years, and I know first hand many of the common symptoms of this disease. When the pancreas does not produce the needed insulin or the body resists the insulin that is produced, sugars build up in the blood and this disorder is called diabetes. In the treatment for high blood sugar levels, low blood sugar levels are also very possible and can be dangerous.

Hypoglycemia: - Hypoglycemia refers to lower than normal blood sugar levels. When a diabetic is treating the disease, there is a fine balance between low sugar or glucose levels in the blood and high sugar levels. Hypoglycemia is a very real danger and a diabetic should be prepared for it at all times. I know from personal experience that it can be life threatening. Once, during a time of great stress I fell into a coma like state at home and woke up in an emergency room being treated for low sugar. Glucagon injection was used to raise my blood sugar levels. I was very thankful for my family, paramedics and my diabetic bracelet.

Hypoglycemia can be brought about by not eating enough carbohydrates on a daily basis or not consuming enough carbohydrates post exercise, especially when taking diabetic treatment drugs. All diabetics need to be aware of hypoglycemia, but especially those like myself who are insulin dependent.

The symptoms of hypoglycemia include:

  • - Blurred Vision.
  • - Dizziness.
  • - Hunger Pangs.
  • - Shaking.
  • - Sweating.
