Hypokinetic Dysarthria is seen in disorders of the extrapyramidal system, such as Parkinson's disease. Increased muscle tone, rigidity, and paucity of movement are apparent in the lack of facial expression and limited movement of lips and tongue during speech. The rapid rate of speech, monotone, quite voice and imprecise consonant production are probably a reflection of limited range and paucity of movement. hesitation inappropriate silences, and then progressive blurring of articulation seem to be the vocal correlate of festination of gait. palilalia, the repeating of words or syllables, is often present.
