I love my Hyundai Elantra

Can a person really love a car?

I am here to say yes and I will tell you all the reasons I love my car. I guess you could say that I have had a monogamous relationship with Hyundai Elantra over the past 13 years. The first one I owned was a lovely shade of cranberry, aproximately a 1993 model which I bought it used from a dealership. In fact it was the first car that I ever negotiated for myself. I can honestly say that I probably got screwed over big time in that deal because I had no idea what I was doing which made me pretty defenseless against the big bad car sales woman. Anyway, I digress. I owned that one, a first generation Elantra, for 5 years. If it were now I would have never purchased that first generation Elantra as none of the kinks had been worked out of such a new model car. I recently said no to buying some 2008 cars because of this factor. It was more like I stumbled into that first Elantra rather than making an educated decision to buy it.

I owned that car for five years. One of the major problems I had with it is that I had to replace the transmission at around 150,000 miles. Shortly thereafter is when I decided that it was time to buy a new car and so having become a more savvy car buyer I scoured the internet for as much information available to guide me in the purchase of my first brand new car. To my surprise the Consumer Report rating coupled with the price of the car and its warranty convinced me that the Elantra once again was the car for me (for real this time). I also got a really good percentage rate on the loan because I went through my credit union to get it. I paid in the ball park of $13,000 for a brand new Elantra in 2000 (not including financing). 124,000 miles later, I am here to say that this car served me well. Not once did it ever break down on me and only required minor repairs towards the end of my ownership. I passed the 2000 on to my daughter and it continues to serve her well.

Now in 2008 I had the opportunity to purchase another new car. With gas prices being what they are and all I was pretty sure that I was going to go the route of the Prius. Whatever car I would end up with would be good on gas. So off we went to kick some tires. I don't know how it happend, perhaps it was the fact that I could get it for under $19,000, the Hyundai Elantra is now Consumer Reports' top-ranked 2008 vehicle amongst 19 other compacts and subcompacts, 33 mpg highway/25 mpg city and the, 5 year/60,000 mile Basic warranty, 5 year unlimited mileage roadside assistance, Drivetrain 10 yr/100,000 miles warranty plus 7 year rust warratny. Besides all of these facts I have a 13 year relationship with the car and the last 8 have been excellent. It kind of ended up being a no brainer for me. I had to go with the Hyundai Elantra once again. The new model also has some fun upgrades including standard cd player, remote control locks/alarm (also standard) and we got the dealer to add leather seats for no extra cost.
