These "movies" (that come out 3 or 4 times a year seemingly) are for the lowest of the low and the dumbest of the dumb.
If you idiots could just stop watching them we wouldn't have to be subjected to them.
They basically take other people's work, make half-assed jokes about it and sell it to you for the same price as the original film. I've actually been to people's houses who OWN these movies!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even tolerate OLD spoof movies like Naked Gun, Hot Shots, Men In Tights, and the only one I might have seen in the theaters was Don't Be a Menace to South Central while Drinking your Juice in the Hood.

some of the spoofs are actually funnier than the genre movies....some of the pseudo rock concert videos, the Weird Al movies, the Toxic avengers etc...but the 14 yewar old who buy the tickets to this stuff don't get the satire in the first place...so I have to assume that since these are immediately dubbed into Hindi, Tagalog, Urdu, and Swahili the producers have their money made the instant this crap is released!
Okay, I understand your pain, Funktual...but Scary Movie 2 is a legitimately hilarious film. The other ones can kiss my black ass...but SM2 was actually a very good movie...dare I say one that I wouldn't be ashamed to own. It was when the Wayan Bros. were funny (now only Damon makes me laugh anymore), and that has to count for something, right? The movies went downhill once the Wayans family jumped ship (after SM2), and that's why we're getting the complete garbage that I'm sure every semi-intelligent human being is completely tired of. Or I'd like to hope.

I agree with you that these movies are beyond crap but one thing they do very effectively is point out all the cliches and predictability of the average hollywood movie such as, the dumber than should be legal blonde (usually portrayed by Carmen Electra- is there no beginning to this girls talents?!), the ridiculous plots which are way to easy to make fun of, etc., Take " Not Another Teen Movie" for instance, this is a genuinely funny take on all the movies churned out over the past 20 years like all the Brat Pack movies, and it really makes a point: if movies weren't so preditable and cliched to begin with, there would be no Spoof Movies made to parody them!
The fact that you saw these films is guilty by association. The commercials are so cringeworthy that I shutter or change the channel, whichever comes first.

these movies get made INSTEAD of original material. Why? Because they can guarantee that 1/5 of the nation will buy it/ rent it simply because they have seen the others and feel obligated OR they have a stpid friend or spouse who likes this crap. Ananta, you may be right about me influencing them but the statistics are in my favor. I have fans from all over the world, 500 subscribers on youtube and they are all immediately notified the second i put something out. I'd say that makes me influential in their lives. I rarely see a movie with a story line I don't like. I didn't like the storyline of these movies. so they didn't "get" me...but I'm one of those people who rarely sees a movie, or doesn't see a movie, based on someone else's opinion...tho' I read the opinion occasionally...I tend to still go by the storyline. I'm a sucker for mystries, love stories, documentaries, tend to keep seeing those kind of shows...I know. I'm boring. But dependable.
I do agree that I hate to see movies that insult my intelligence or gross me out. no matter the storyline in that case.
However DJ, I must say that you do speak your mind rather forcefully. Now don't yell at me, I'm a sucker for gentle remember, but I just wondered if it works for you...

I jus watched the Epic Movie and you know what... i kind of feel stupid after watching it half way. It really paid great insults to alot of classic movies. I apologies for my comments buddy. Hope you forgive me.
The only time I watch these movies is if I'm over at my cousin's house and they want to watch them. Though I will admit Scary Movie 1 and 2 are pretty good when compared to the latest ones (like date movie and epic movie.)
I feel like I've dropped 10 IQ every time I'm forced to watch one. However what's scary isn't that these movies are made...It's that there are people who like them. If people didn't like them, those movie producers wouldn't bother with these insulting movies.
My counsins just tell me to "ease up and have fun". But I'd rather they just grow up and get some culture.
I wasn't justifting my intelligence by saying that I watch documentaries just pointing out that people have varied tastes in what they watch and that watching these movies dosen't make you dumb. I do however get what you are trying to say about mindless people with no culture whatsoever and agree with what you are saying in most respects but the ignorance of these people won't be corrected if they stop watching these movies, that's a far bigger issue!

One point I would like to make is that by NOT seeing things like Miami Vice I get to keep my respect for those two actors. This way, if my assumption is wrong and it turns out to be stunningly good,
(like BUG w/ Ashley Judd. Who saw that coming? Good director, that's what happened.)

That was my only attention w/ my hub. I think we sometimes don't even consider missing something simply because they don't think about it and do it on autopilot, so to speak. I hope that my Tater wasn't too hurt by it.

Thanks for this hub. It seems like a lot of the movies are 'junk' these days, and some of them make a lot of money. It's ridiculous that the public would support those movies, but there are a lot of people out there with really bad taste. And, that's not judgmental. It's a fact.
I don't care at all for those movies. I do not watch them. If I see one that has Will Farrell in it, I run the other way. I also agree it's a waste of time and money. I just plain ole refuse to watch them. When I see movies like this, it makes me feel that Hollywood just has too much money and they don't know what to do with it. (I wont hold the fact that you don't like Forrest Gump against you heehee) Great hub!

Since I rarely get to spend some relaxing time with my daughter, sometimes I sit through mindless shows in order just to be with her for a few minutes. Such was the case when I saw a little bit of Date Movie.
Oh, dear - really bad....so mind-numbing and brainless that I either had to get up and do something else, or I was going to have to chew off my right arm. So, I left her to relish in the temporary squalor of stupidity. I am hoping the college tuition I am paying is not for naught!
In general I agree - these movies are a waste of time, energy, money and so much more. I do have one weakness though from this category - I love Robin Hood: Men In Tights. I think that one doesn't really fit into this category. It's a parody, yes, but I think it's much more well written than Scary Movie and stuff like that. (I was forced to sit through Scary Movie during high school, yuck. I am glad to say that we all hated it so I never had to sit through another one again.)

allshookup - Will Ferrell is the most talented comedic actor working right now BUT, that said, he has been in some real clunkers. Elf is brilliant though.

OK, so these movies are crap, but the 'zealous' response (ranting abut it and calling calling them idiots) of this hub isn't going convert any of the viewers which make these movies commericially viable. While rhey still make money you will see more of them and Hollywood is all about money.
I do agree these movies, and many more like them, all suck though.

DJ, you really do embody the first three letters of the word assume, don't you? I never did say that I liked them or that I did not. The point is, if you hate these movies so much why are you taking the time to write about them AND put up the google adds directing people on buying them? Everyone is a hypocrite to some degree, but at least have some class. If get a rise out of movies like Videodrome, Evilspeak, Eraserhead, and Alice,Sweet Alice make me the lowest common denominator, then so be it. I'll take that as a compliment. But you never did answer my question: if you don't like all the movies I do then are YOU an idiot and a jackass? Everyone has their own thing but just because you're not into it doesn't make everyone else an idiot. So are you into Fulci, Lynch, Argento, Polanski, Waters, Miike, or Cronenberg? Wanna know why the radio is so awful today? Because these kids weren't raised right! They got no history (and in some cases) are proud of it!
The only way to make these MOVIEs go away is to educate the public about how silly they are being. They DO get the message after a while.
J-Lo, George W. Bush, Ja Rule all had their day and like Keyser Soze (POOF!) they were gone and THAT is what I hope happens to these horrible MOVIEs.

While I agree that a large percentage of the movies you listed are painfully devoid of artistic merit, I have to say that to just lump everyone who has watched them or laughed at them into the "dumb," the "moron" and the "asshole" category is somewhat beneath you, DJ.
Cat3na pointed out that some of them truly do the duty of a good parody and satire and you dismiss the concept out of hand. I realize this hub was meant as a rant, and I tried to laugh along with you, but, frankly the intesity of your disparagement towards those who enjoy these movies frustrates me.
It is not in the nature of the human animal as a whole to maintain constant "perfection" in the pursuit of aesthetics, which, in theory, underlies art. Even Shakespeare was not above base humor, and raw comedy dates back as far as the festivals of Dionysus. And, no, I am not comparing the movies you mention to Shakespeare or classic comedians, however, I am saying that to create entertainment for the sake of amusement does not mean the creators or the consumers of the product are "assholes." They are just taking an artitist "swing" in the baseball game of creativity (and quite aside from who is paying for the work).
Sometimes a fart joke is far more amusing than the ironic literary allusion and more appropriate too. The context, timing and delivery have more to do with it than the loftiness of the object under scrutiny. Each thing in its age.
My point is merely to say that your criticism rings too harshly and places weight upon these movies that they never claimed to have. Some of them have more merit than you are willing to see (or perhaps are capable of seeing) and the rest, well, they deliver no less than they promised when you saw them in preview. And worse, you impune the intellect of those who might find respite in a moment's empty levity in a world that is brutal, thankless and corrupt. Frankly, I think you've missed the point completely in many ways.
No disrespect intended. I've enjoyed many of your hubs and am certain to enjoy many more in the future. I hope you take my disagreement in the spirit in which I intended it to be.

These movies are evil. If I give them no credit, it's because I couldn't force myself to watch it. I'M FUNNIER THAN THEY ARE ANYWAY! In fact, i'm mocking them in the SAME SPIRIT in which THEY MOCK the movies they are ripping off.

I so hated Scary Movie and all it sequels. The only thing I will admit though is I found one scene in Scary Movie III humorous because it made fun of Signs, which really just got overplayed in my house in 2003. Back then I was living with my mom and she had to watch Signs everytime it was on, and I was like gee I cannot stand this movie one more time. Never noticed before, but they were really lazy putting those posters together, each one looks almost the same.
Personally, I'd just burn all movies except Here Comes Spinal Tap.
I think the main reason why these movies get worse as they go is because they don't give us time to miss them. Like I said earlier, I actually didn't hate Scary movie (1 & 2) as much as I did the others. Of course that's because they used more classic movies and their releases weren't that close together. These newer spoof movies suck even more because they use recent movies. However just because something did well at the box office, doesn't make it classic. And if it's not classic it's hard to come up with a proper joke that everyone will recognize/understand.
These spoof movies wouldn't be that bad if they weren't so close together. I hate how when something makes money, people go forth and overflood the market. I want to scream to those directors "wait at least 7 years to release a new spoof movie"

Spoof movies are released soon after the original in order to get the maximum response from the audience. Basic Instinct came out in 1992 and everyone was talking about the scene where Sharon Stone goes the police station not wearing underwear and uncrosses and then crosses her legs. A year later Fatal Instinct came out to parody that scene, but it was way too ridiculous in its approach in my opinion. If spoofs movie makers waited more than seven years to parody particular scenes these would become meaningless to audiences that have seen much more revealing things since then. However, I do not like spoofs in general, or even most of the movies they are based upon. All I can say is the spoof movie makers are interested in sales and that is their bottom line, so they go out of their way to find scenes of movies that are fresh in the minds of movie goers and make fun of these. Yes they are unorginal, nothing great about doing business that way.
I saw the commercial with AMY WINEHOUSE and I wanted to puke. We have this amazing voice attached to a gifted and troubled singer and they have her looking like a vampire! Ugh. Assholes!

I was really annoyed to see the Disaster Movie preview on TV tonight. It looks pretty bad.

I can't take any of those movies either. I can't say that I have watched them, but I have seen parts of some and could not stomach it. But, I don't have a problem with those who do.....just with their choice of entertainment.
I guess some could say the same thing about watching The Simpsons.....except that it is freakin genius. Plus it has helped me achieve great things in my life. (See above) But to each his own, right? Thanks, DJ, You made my week!
I'm with you, horrible fucking movies. I learned after watching scary movie and date movie. I do have to say that Scary Movie 2 has like 3 scenes that are funny. But the rest suck balls and i haven't even seen them all.
DJ, I am SO GLAD someone wrote this hub. Thank you. I RARELY - if at all - ever see any of these types of movies. Are not the previews seen on TV enough to tell anyone how bad they are?
...Apparently not. I rented 300 (through Netflix) and watched it with my mother and my 18 yr old nephew. We all loved it, of course. A couple months later, my nephew rented "Meet the Spartans" (because that is what teenagers do, right?!) and recommended I check it out. So, having not seen an incredibly stupid movie in years, I figured 'what the hell' and rented it.
BIG MISTAKE!!!!! I think I made it through about 10 minutes (hoping it would somehow get better) before I went 'Oh, holy shit!' and turned it off, stuck it quickly back into the envelope, and into the mailbox...
I felt betrayed. I've turned that dude on to some incredible movies... which he loved! And, this is what he recommends for me in return?!
Today I'll attend a press screening of "Disaster Movie." For the particular company that I will submit the review, I will be able to write down objectively every inane happenstance, dsitributed across 4 or 5 categories that people can access & see and decide for themselves before viewing or not viewing, purchasing or not purchasing the film. The clips I have seen already are brainless to me.

I have been seeing the previews for Disaster Movie. It looks every bit as good as the masterpieces listed above!
DJ I am inclined to agree with Shades and I don't even watch most of these movies even when they (fairly quickly I might add) appear on TV. When I flip channels I can barely watch 5 minutes (enough time to get a story line - what story line!) before I flip or switch off. As to renting (as opposed to ranting) I read the sleeve before I rent or at least the crit (if I can find it). So as in all things judgement and moderation.
BTW you have got as many hits on this hub as do the controversial religous ones.
So you are onto something A new religion perhaps. Although a bit harsh I do (mostly) enjoy your hubs.

I like your new picture, dj. I have to agree with you on this one. These hodgepodges of random movies really don't cut it with me either. It is very depressing to see resources wasted in producing these films. I think that Scary Movie 1 can be justified, as it is the first of its kind, but there is really no need for further crappy mixes.
