Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day
Watch...
Until recently, I thought the HubPages were for light issues and recipes, and that's been fun. Then Marisuewrites published a great rant titled "America, We're Not Spoiled!" and the flood gates opened. The feedback has been coming from all around the world. Wow!
Is there a Best Hub Award? Give it to Marisuewrites.
So, I would like to talk about the Iraq war, because there's been alot of debate, but no one seems to want to admit the simple truth of why we're there. First, some facts: We were attacked by Osama Bin Laden on 911. In retaliation, G.W.Bush went after Iraq. At first, I was behind this (even though it had nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden) because Saddam Husssein was in violation of the rules. He'd refused to allow UN inspectors to search for WMDs for 15 years. Why? But then he finally allowed them to search and they found nothing. Everyone suspects he was hiding something, and he probably was, but the truth is we've yet to find any WMDs, there wasn't any terrorists hiding there, and there was no justifiable reason for going to war with Iraq. But Bush was on mission. Invade Iraq.
What Iraq -and the Middle East- does have is oil. Our oil supplies peaked in the 70s. The oil in the Middle East hasn't. I'm no rocket scientist, but I can put two and two together. We invaded another country and killed their president (granted, no tears shed here) so that we can control their oil. And I believe that Bush will do the same thing to Iran, given the chance. Wars have been waged throughout history for land and resources, so this really isn't such a big shocker, and the Bushes are snuggly in bed with corporate oil. Anyone who's played a RealTimeStrategy war game knows that he who controls the resources wins the game. The outrage seems to come from the lies told as to why we're there. If Bush had said, Hey, we're running out of oil and oil is what made this nation the richest and most powerful in the world, so we're gonna go kill that despot Hussein and take his, I wonder what the reaction would have been. I certainly would have respected the truth more than the ridiculous lies he tried to feed us.
My questions are: When which ever democrat who wins office takes us out of Iraq, are we finally going to put some serious funds and research into alternative energy supplies so we can stop being so dependant on everyone else? If we'd spent all those trillions we've used funding this war on alternative energy research, would we be there already? When we leave Iraq, will we keep a base there to maintain control of the oil?
There is no shortage of alternative energies options. There's geothermal, hydro, wind, solar, nuclear, etc. We simply need to start using these resources, and we do, to a point, but we're certainly not independent of oil yet.
I hold out hope that with the new presidency, and the looming global warming crisis, we will soon be free of our oil addiction. It's time.

CW,
The small pictures under my article is from Amazon. You can sign up for an Amazon account and also an Ebay account. Click on the "help" tab at the top of the page and then go down to "Making Money." In that section it will tell you how to do it step by step. I didn't sign up for ebay, though. And I'm not sure how much you get paid from Amazon - but it's separate from Google. You have a Google account don't you? If not, it should tell you there, also, how to do that. Otherwise, you don't get paid for any of it.
Thanks Karen, great feedback. I think you're right about the media. It's not supposed to look as gruesome as it really is. I wonder who's pulling those strings. Our "free press" isn't as free as we think. Is anything?
Ya, I signed up for Google AdSense. I really like Amazon.com so I'll sign up for that, too. Thanks!
Well I'm giving this one a million thumbs up!! (heh heh heh - no ego, mine.)
Thanks for the great plug...
LOL Actually, you hit the nail on the head....and I think our whole country is so sick of Bush-antics. The world knows we've been Bush-whacked! Did you catch OHberman last night? I've never heard him speak so vehemently against the things Bush has done. Our poor poor country will spend years picking up the pieces here and around the world.
I agreeeeee with this HUB!!! Awesome and keep 'em coming...we can't let up...our voices count! We have to believe that -- otherwise, we will always be victims. (I say as I help carry the torch...)
Thanks Marisue, I wrote this one right after you wrote "America, We're Not Spoiled" but I think it sorta got lost in all our other hubs. But, this is the one I added "the video" to.
Also: Just sent you a message.
I can't get back to you thru the email...it's lost in cyber space...is your email active? I'm going back thru all the hubbers...trying to catch up reading their great hubs...returning favors =) sorry I was late getting to this one...
Totally understood...
Great hub, CW, but if we're in Iraq to GET the oil, why are you and I are paying close to $4 a gallon at the pump???? Doesn't it seem logical that if being in Iraq was really about keeping the oil flowing, shouldn't the price of gas have dropped, not increased? 'To the victor go the spoils', and all that.
What REALLY happened is Bush...who cut his teeth in the oil bidness, remember...and his buddies in the oil industry needed to put a lid on Iraq's oil. Squeeze the supply to drive prices UP. Which they've done..."Mission Accomplished"...and Americans are now paying for oil TWICE...first with blank checks to fund Bush's Folly, and again at the pumps. Isn't America great?
And, I've just read that our military is paying the same high price we are for gas while they're in Iraq --- It's about the money and we are all being manipulated, lied to, constantly.
Thanks for the feedback, Jama. I'm not paying close to $4 at the pump. I walk everywhere I go, but I agree with you on why prices are now so high. It doesn't change the fact that the Iraq invasion was still about controlling Saddam Hussein's oil. That we were able to bring a despot to justice was just a show for media. If we were really in the business of usurping lunatics from power, we'd be in China right now.
and many other places, Korea, Africa, Africa, Korea...
That seems to be wholly what the current administration is all about: lies and manipulation. More so than any other... and more blatantly open about it, too. It's like they're saying, "What can they do?"
Somehow, justice and human rights just to seem to be high on Bush's agenda.
ahhhh bushwhacked!
Where is a gun-toting crazy when you need one?!
Keep in mind what will happen if we switch to alternative fuels. Exxon-mobile, a 400 billion dollar corporation, would go out of business. They have the power to buy whatever politicians they choose and disappear anyone that threatens their $17 billion annual net profit. Plus, if we suddenly switch to an alternative fuel, the rest of the world will no longer compete with us for that oil and it will go to other nations and help them industrialize faster (china for example).
We went from discovering fission to A bomb in six years. From A bomb to H bomb in eight. We started nuclear power plants in the early fifties. Ever since, scientists have been saying that controlled fusion is just thirty years out. Sixty years later and ten times the funding, where are we? My guess is that we've discovered controlled fusion and are keeping it a secret because the world isn't ready for free energy. Damn government. Bunch of control freaks. Half our money goes to solving the secret and the other half goes to keeping it a secret.
So happy you stopped by, Sci-Guru. Well, thanks a lot! Every time I think I have handle on what's rteally goin on (as far as I can, in my paranoia, imagine), someone comes along and throws in a logical monkey-wrench of some NEW twist to the government's underhanded deception.
I just give up...
Is there any country on Earth where the leadership can be trusted... even a little?
Sci -Guru "Bunch of control freaks. Half our money goes to solving the secret and the other half goes to keeping it a secret. "
I LOVE that comment. TOO FUNNY and SO TRUE. LOL I'm rolling here. marisue

Not to mention what's happening to the economy in this country - and why?
To me this should be the TOP topic with presidential candidates, but it's not - why? We have lost so many American lives, but we don't see it on TV like during the VN war - why? Is it so it's not so real to us, just another tv entertainment series. You're mad about this, I'm mad about it and I bet a whole lot of others are also.
