I Just Lost My Job - First Step - Don't Panic - Yeah Right

Every day someone types into google saying "I just lost my job what do I do"?  I've been there so I can speak from first hand knowledge.  I didn't lose a job, but I lost 2 major clients that provided the lions share of income from my business that I needed to support my family.  Being a single mom, that pressure was almost too much to bear.  I had temporarily lost faith in God and faith in the abilities He had given me.

I tell you not to panic, but what did I do at first?  I did panic!  Every negative thought that could possibly run through my mind did.  Here are just a few.  I'm too old to get another job.  I'm over 50, no one will hire me.  I'm too tired to work two jobs.  I'm over-educated and no one will pay the salary I need.  I'm not as attractive as I used to be so I won't be able to get my foot in the door.  Employers like to hire people who look good.  People will think I did something wrong.  People will talk about me.   I don't have six months of savings to get us through and on and on and on.

After a week of having a pity party, I found that it wasn't my job that I had just lost, it was my self-respect.  What do I mean?  I conveniently forgot who I am and what I had so I made a list of my qualities.

I am a hard worker and a person of action.  I have skills and abilities that are transferrable to other fields.  I have never given up before and don't have to give up now.  Even though I just lost my job, that doesn't make me any less of a person.  I have my faith, my family and my friends to help me through.  I have helped so many others before, I can call on them now for a little help.  I can be and am creative.  If one door closes, another door will open.  I will make it.

Hopefully this hub will direct you in the right way if you are holding your head in your hands and saying, I just lost my job, now what will I do.

1st Step - If You Have Just Lost Your Job - Learn How to Find Another One

Let's solve the problem. I just lost my job now what will I do?

I am a headhunter with 25+ years experience. I have had my own business since 1986 and have spoken to thousands of individuals who have lost their jobs. The one key element they all had in common was that they were never prepared to lose their jobs. They didn't even know that they needed a back up plan just in case this would happen to them.

You can find out what to do if you have just lost your job by getting Job Search 101 in an instant download - both audio and video - right now and begin reading today.  Just click on the picture on the website and you will get your instant savings.

No one teaches us that you almost have to take a course to learn how to find a job, but it's true. You do need a course. There are specific steps that you must take to be prepared in advance, so that when a job loss does come, you will be ready for it.

I wrote an ebook a year ago that tells you step by step how to prepare for finding a new job. If you were blindsided and just lost your job, this book will be very helpful to you. You won't be blind sided next time. I spent just over a year writing the book and I also know that when you give something away for free, it doesn't have any value to a lot of people. I also know what it's like to not have any money.

So for a limited time, if you are unemployed, have lost your job and don't know how to find another one, or just want to have the information to be prepared the next time, I am discounting the book down from it's retail value of $39.97 to just $9. The book comes in audio form as well and I will give you the download links for the audio for free. This audio version cost quite a lot to produce.  Please see the link above to order and click on the picture of the Ebook which will take you to the secure clickbank site.

You will also get four free reports to help you get started with your job search right away. If you don't like the book for any reason, if you don't think you got $9 worth of value out of either the book or the CD downloads, even if you have read the whole thing all the way through, I will give you 100% of your money back within 60 days. All you have to do is send me an email.

This book will point you in the right direction, especially if you did just lose your job.

I Just Lost My Job What Do I Do Next

If you don't want to order or can't order the ebook, then there are lots of other things you can do for free.  All of them will require hours of research, but you will find a lot of information on the net.  I'll be writing more articles on hub pages to see if I can help too.

To start, just see what is already available out there.  It's going to seem like an overwhelming amount of information and all of the sources vary.  Go to google and type in, "I just lost my job what do I do next" or a similar search phrase, and see what comes up.  Start reading.  Look for titles that are of interest to you and gather all of the advice that you can.  Even if you do order and read my book, you will want to expand beyond my advice to see what advice others have for you too.  My advice is solid and based on years of experience.  All the research is done and has been gathered into one place.  It is a great value and something you can use for many years to come since the basics don't change.  Please watch for more helpful hubs in the near future and I wish you great success.  If you do need to panic, do it quickly and get over it because you have lots of work ahead of you.

Thanks Katie and way to go. Be optimistic and don't stop until you have found a new job to replace your old one. In these economic times, it will be harder and you may have to be more flexible, but you still have options available to you. When times get better, you will be a much stronger person for having worked hard to get where you want to go.

What if no job comes, what if application after application is turned down? What if there is no option to turn to?

Jack, I can understand your frustration. In today's world, the reality is that you may never be able to replace the job you once had. That depends on what your background is/was. There may be no job to go back to.

When I lost two major clients in my search business, I had to start all over again. I had a few small back ups, but that wasn't paying the bills. I had to survive so I became creative. I still had credit cards so I started building small websites to earn adsense income. That paid one or two bills for me and still does today (although adsense payouts have been affected by the economy too).

I had NO knowledge of how to do this and NO technical skills but I just jumped in and started.

I then started selling on Ebay. At first I started selling things around my house (I still have plenty of stuff to sell if I need to) and then I decided to start doing some research and find out a way to sell what I like to sell.

You must have a hobby or an interest that others share. That's where you can start. Build a free website with godaddy by purchasing a domain name through them. Or, if you can afford it, build a simple 5 page site for about $5 per month. That way you can put your own adsense ads on the website. Then find items related to your hobby that you can sell. You can put Amazon products right on your site (look at my website http://www.babypacifiershop.com as an example). You can sign up to do this and earn a commission from Amazon. It's not much but it helps.

Then find a wholesaler for your market niche. Do a google search or to to Thomas Register and find the manufacturer of your product. If you call them, they will tell you who their distributors are. Then you can buy the product from the distributor at near wholesale and start selling it from your website and on Ebay. That will bring some income in.

My income has not been replaced, but I now make enough from Ebay and my own ecommerce website to pay the majority of my bills. I still do my executive recruiting business as well. I am always looking for new ways to generate income. I also sell a travel membership on the side because I belong to it and believe in it. It's kind of a passive sale.

If you don't think you are the entrepreneur type, then you will have to go to work somewhere even if it is for minimum wage. You may even have to work two jobs just to pay the bills. Ask family members to help. . . if you have a teenager, they will need to go to work to pitch in. In the meantime, don't give up your search. Make sure you are being proactive, not passive. Don't just send resumes randomly. That's a total waste of time and money. Only respond to jobs that make sense for you. Consider retraining for another field. There are government programs that may be able to help you. Just don't give up. It is hard and it is discouraging and at times, you really don't know how you are going to make it, but if you use your God given talents, tell your family and friends to help make contacts on your behalf, go to past associates, etc and keep spreading the word, you will find something. It may not be your dream job and your whole world may seem to be shattered, but in reality, there are millions of others going through the same thing right now. If we all gave up, that would be the tragedy.

The very worst case scenerio is that you can't get anything and you will need to apply for welfare. If you have paid into the system, and now you need it, then take advantage of it. You will get good medical care and some money. Don't make welfare the goal, but use it as a stepping stone until you can get on your feet. I know plenty of people who have had to resort to this. They weren't on it long, but they were on it as long as they needed to be.

Seriously though. Put your thinking cap on and get busy trying to build your own small business on the internet. At least you have some control over your future. Start now and maybe in several years you will have a business you can be proud of that you can pass along or sell. Just don't give up.
