I Thought It Was Going to be Good

Two weekends ago I went to see The Time Traveler's Wife.  Although the actors and the actresses are talented, the film adaptation of the book written by author, Audrey Niffenegger was not as good as I thought it was going to be.  I felt badly for talking someone else into going to see it with me.  The movie concept was good (the book certainly sold a lot of copies) but it seems as if something was lost in the translation from written page to silver screen.

While I sat in the theatre I thought about the time that I went to see the last Superman movie (it came out a few years ago) with my son.  Phew!  That movie left a lot to be desired.  But the most disappointing movie I saw to date was American Beauty.  I just didn't get this movie that won Oscar Awards when it came out several years ago.  It received lots of critical acclaim, but the folks who thought American Beauty was a "beauty" of a movie must have been watching a different story than I saw.

I got American Beauty on DVD.  I only watched it once then I tossed it.

Have you ever gotten hyped up to go watch a movie because it received a lot of great reviews then gotten all settled into the theatre with your popcorn and juice or soda and found yourself staring at the screen wondering what the movie was about?  I haven't seen many international movies so not sure if films are hyped a lot in other countries but don't live up to their marketing and promotional claims.

Do you get up and walk out of a bad movie?  Or do you sit in the theatre and watch the film until the credits roll up the screen because you don't want to wait $10 to $20 (the average cost of a nighttime movie ticket)?

It was time, Ault said to himself, to get offensive about the defense.
