I Was A Taco Bell Spy: Unveiling Mystery Shopping
62I wasn't in the CIA but I was paid to spy on Taco Bell
Yes, there are many of them around you and you wouldn't even know it. It's mystery shopping and businesses in all kinds of industries use them. My first gig was several years ago as a Taco Bell mystery shopper. I had to visit the same Taco Bell every month without being detected. You think this would be easy but I had to do several chores without being noticed including checking the bathrooms, interior and exterior for cleanliness, timing people in line with a stopwatch and recording how long it took to get their orders and the trickiest was taking the temperature of the food I was required to order. This did require some funny sneaking. One time It was a month that I had to time the drive through. I was hiding in the back of my van at the Dunkin Donuts next door when a man from our church saw me and banged on my window to ask what I was doing! Fast food gigs usually tell you what to order and the day and a window of time. You fill out a report afterward and send them your receipt and then get reimbursed plus a payment for your work.
Taco's Weren't My Only Targets
I have done Mystery Shops for Pet Smart, tomatoes at grocery stores, Wholesale Clubs like Costco, and even for cars. Car and mot\rtgage companies pay the best but you can't do them very often because they check your credit and if it is checked too often you can lower your credit score. There are lots of things out there but you need to get a listing of the companies that businesses hire to do their shopping. You can search and search on the internet but they can be hard to find so I suggest that you break down and buy a download that will give you a list and how-to to get started. Don't get suckered into a monthly subscription, the reputable companies that use mystery shoppers don't change that much. The following is one I think that would give you a lot of bang for your buck. It will also give you surveys on-line and several other things. I have done surveys as well and will post another blog about them. Mystery Shopping is real and almost all of them use the internet to send you e-mails after you are accepted by them to invite you to do a shop. Check out the link below and for a very small fee you'll be on your way.

What a great story! I have never been caught timing a service line... but I have been caught by co-workers at a bowling ally (why are you eating that pizza? I didn't even know you ate wheat) and at a very expensive national steak chain (oh, are you on one of those shopping things?).
In both cases I was lucky that no employees were around and my hubby helped cover with "we were just in the area and decided to stop in" excuses :-)!
