I am fat.
73I recently read the FAQs page on a personal blog. The author stated that she had no intentions of accepting comments or email regarding the blog and that everything she said was basically how everyone should think. So this is my response.
Dear blogger [who wishes to remain anonymous],
I am fat. I am 5 feet, 3 inches tall, and I weigh a whopping 213 pounds.Very little of it is muscle.
Once, I ballooned to 235 pounds, and I haven't been under 150 pounds since the fifth grade.
Do you hate me? According to your blog, every fat woman is ugly.
Fat women are also bitter, so you say.
I beg to differ on both counts.
I am beautiful.
Yes, I am a beautiful fat woman.
I get checked out by at least 5 or 6 men every time I go to Walmart. And my husband doesn't like me going to bars without him, because he knows I'll get hit on.
Why? Because I'm HOT!
Miss Blogger, you may think that my fat is disgusting, but it's not. It's just fat.
And I've earned it.
I have 5 amazing kids, each of whom has left his or her own tier of stretch marks on my abdomen, butt and upper thighs. Yes, I can actually differentiate which set of marks came from which kid.
And it's sexy.
Furthermore, I am not bitter.
Not that I don't have plenty of reason to be.
- I've struggled with health issues since I was in my mother's womb.
- At the age of 4 I was molested.
- At 5, I contracted Malaria and Dengue Fever and was diagnosed with arthritis.
- At the age of 16, I tried to commit suicide and failed.
- At 17 I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
- On my honeymoon, when I was just 18, my husband slammed my head against a wall and tried to strangle me.Stupid me, I forgave him, and the abuse went on for 6 years.
- When I was 19, I developed lymphedema, which has caused my legs to resemble an elephant's.
- Four of my children have been sexually abused, and so have I.
So I think it would be normal for a person like me to be at least a little bitter, especially with being fat and all.
But I'm not.
I'm happy.
And I tend to make those around me happy too.
I'm sorry, Miss Blogger, if you've been hurt. And just in case we run into each other on the street, I promise to keep my gargantuan body properly dressed.
But please, don't group every fat woman into your idea of fat = ugly + bitter. Because it's just not true.
Sincerely,
kp

Kathryn you are beautiful! I have never judged by outward appearance and my belief is it's what on the inside that counts. 5 precious children. God bless you sis.

You are gorgeous. Anyone who says otherwise is just a fool. :)
I agree with all of you. Oh, and thanks, too. =D
Beauty is so hard to define when we estimate ourselves by pop culture- I feel your pain! I am glad you feel free from the eyes of ridicule dear friend!!
Kathryn,
I think I like you very much. And just so you know, you are beautiful. And a strong woman. And yes, I like your attitude towards life. Yeah, the fats are there. I wish I can lose some of mine. I am what you call chubby. If I get thin, I become ugly. So I learned to keep a little of my fat. LOL. so cheers!
Kathryn,
That is a bold and beautiful essay. You have been a fighter, a survivor, a challenger and a mother, and look good for many more courageous avatars. I think 'beautiful' does not even begin to describe being all those things. You are not just beautiful, you are admirable.
Vaidy
Awwww, thanks, guys!
you looks so beautiful. Just self confident. please read my hub about " the most beautiful woman in the world" you can find the best thing from you and I hope it could change your opinion about yours. Just appreciate your self. more than anything in this world.
Loved it and like your confident Pose in the first photo.
I always say to people, we all can't be a size zero. Even wrote a Hub (Being Fat is not a Crime). As long as you are happy within yourself and eat healthy, that's what matters. There are so many Slim Jims out there who are depressed and constantly worry about their weight - even when they are slim. Life is for living - Live it with Passion, Kathryn. :)

Your story is hard to swallow ... very hard. Not because of the being overweight issue but because of what you went through. Nobody should have to put up with half the things you wrote about. It is none of my business why you put up with the things you did but in my opinion you should not have. Harsh ...
