I am now a right wing extremist

The government thinks I am a potential domestic terrorist

Now that I have been labeled by my own government as a dangerous "right wing extremist", I have news for you.  Many of you who read this column are now classified as such, too.  And I guarantee that many other people that you know are also now classified by the Department of Homeland Security as extremists.  What did we do to gain such an honor?  We simply believe in a government following its own Constitution.

For those who oppose a North American Union, gun control, abortion on demand, illegal immigration, forced universal government service for all citizens, infringement upon United States sovereignty, and violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, you now have your own file in some government database and are labeled as an extremist.

If you think that I am making this up, there is a 10 page bulletin just released by the Department of Homeland Security that I have on my computer right this moment that says so.  Apparently the socialist bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. believe that returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan are potential future domestic terrorists.

The left wing has been poking fun at the right for having tax protest rallies, anti-illegal immigration rallies, and associating anyone who opposes the current governmental policies as a "skin head", racist, or neo-Nazi.  I have seen and heard such comments my own self.  The ironic part is that the Nazi Party in Germany was not a right wing party.  They were leftists.  They were The National Socialist German Workers' Party.

I have never heard of right wing radicals (now consisting of your average, everyday citizen of this country that loves freedom and a constitutional republic) being violent and inherently racist.  Lest we forget, it was the left wing that opposed the Civil Rights Act.  It was a leftist activist that shot Abraham Lincoln.  Right wingers who attended tax protest tea parties across the nation last week were entirely peaceful.

Compare that to the left wing protesters at UNC Chapel Hill last week.  Imagine that…left wing socialists at Chapel Hill.  Who would have thought that could happen?  An acquaintance of mine had organized an event at UNC through the Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee.  You may have heard that former candidate for President, Tom Tancredo from Colorado was the guest speaker.  ALIPAC had a video camera rolling and put the video on the internet.  I got to see the footage that no television station was carrying.

Ignorant college students were protesting the fact that Mr. Tancredo, who was my second choice during the Presidential Primaries last election season, was going to speak about the topic of states allowing illegal aliens to get in state tuition rates at state universities.  Before the event began, students were protesting, illegally blocking building exits, and attempting to impede the event.  During the talk, students strung a banner in front of Tom Tancredo.  They would not listen to reason and only wanted to be disruptive.  A protester outside the room broke out a pane of glass to the external window and chaos ensued.

The very same ideologues that have been harshly critical of "right wing extremists" and warn of "right wing domestic terrorists" themselves became a brand of terrorists of their own.  They resorted to violence and attempted to squash any voice of dissent.  Freedom of speech is fine if it is in their favor, but must be stopped at all cost if it is of a different perspective.

That same philosophy has become prevalent in our government.  Any voice of opposition must be silenced.  The opposing views must be forcibly stopped.  That, my friends, is not American.  It is not ethical.  It is not the land of the free and the home of the brave.  It is hypocrisy in action.  That, my friends, is what you have elected to office at our state and national levels.

I am in good company, though.  The voices of Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and many others held the same freedoms dear to their hearts and risked their lives to stand by their convictions.  They would have been labeled radical right wing extremists.  Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, and even Jesse Helms would have been labeled as right wing extremists.

If you believe in smaller government, lower taxes, the right of a baby to be born and not killed in utero, in following the United States Constitution, and the punishment of criminal behavior, then you too are now a right wing extremist.  The federal government may have a file on you by now. Congratulations, comrades, you have now been classified by your own government as a potential domestic terrorist.

The election is over. Obama won. We are in the process of getting our democracy back. Nobody has to secede.

I was wondering what that black helicopter was doing last night buzzing my property...I guess, as a former Marine, I am considered a terrorist risk that may be easily led into a militia, intent on crushing the federal government by any means possible. What a load of crap...these people need to get a life, and get out of mine...

Texas is looking better every day now...

Intelligent and timely Hub...Thanks

Mr. Torpey,

We are not in the process of getting our democracy back for two reasons. First, the United States is not nor has it ever been a democracy. The Founding Fathers detested democracy. They loved a republican form of government so much that they guaranteed that form in our Constitution (Article 4 Section 4).

Second, the republic that we hold so dear has been so hijacked by socialist radicals, we no longer resemble a representative republic in essence. Yes, the election is over and Obama won. THAT is the problem, sir, not the solution.

Where did you see ANYTHING about secession in my hub?

Sure we're a republic, but we are the leading democracy in the world, too. That's just right wing claptrap. Obama is the solution, not the problem. The problem is nut cases like Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is trying to stir up right wingers about secession. You didn't mention secession, but that's where talk about the Nazi Party takes you. Homeland Security is just doing the job it's been doing since it's existing: Keeping the government informed about possible threats to our "republic."

If you mean Democracy as in more taxes, then we are definitely going to get our Democracy, until it hurts and even after we pass out from the hurt.

Mr. Torpey, how can more of what has failed in every single socialist nation on the earth and something that is totally antithetical to the precepts of a republic be the answer to the republic? So in your eyes, totally ignoring the Constitution will bring us back to the Constitution? No, that is not "right wing claptrap". That is common sense and a knowledge of civics and history. No, talk about the Nazi Party takes you nowhere near secession. That is an absurd extrapolation on your part. If you truly think that Obama and socialism is the answer to socialism, then I question your reasoning faculties.

You stated, "Sure we're a republic, but we are the leading democracy in the world, too." You just contradicted yourself. We can not be a republic AND a democracy at the same time. Do you not know the difference between the two? Do you need a civics lesson?

There's little point in offering light to those who cannot see, so this is my final word. Obama is not a socialist, but there's nothing wrong with socialism. Neither is the United States a capitalist country -- it is in name only, thank goodness. It is the right wing, not liberals, who "ignore" the Constitution (Who ignored the Constitution more than George W. Bush?) While we are certainly a "republic," only right wingers would argue with the reality that the United States is a "representative democracy" -- probably because it sounds a little bit like "Democrat." This is not about "civics," it's about extremist views that are decidedly undemocratic.

Dude, Obama embodies the very definition of socialism. He does what socialists do. You obviously are oblivious to what socialism is. Yes, there is something inherently wrong with socialism. First, it has FAILED everywhere it has been tried. Second, it is unethical. Bush had his faults and I am no fan of George W. Liberals, however, have ignored the Constitution far more than the right wing has. You have obviously never studied the Constitution, the writings of the Founding Fathers, or the history that went into the writing of the document. Your characterization of the reticence to use the word democracy because of a closely named party is just abject stupidity or blind bias. Either way, you have spewed forth a heap big amount of partisan pablum. And for the record, I am not a Republican.

It's sad that some feel threatened by a historical understanding of our country, and yet, without the historical understanding, our country is nothing. If things keep moving in the direction they are, there will be no American Dream, and there will be no immigration problems, as there will be nothing worth immigration for.

Troy I wrote a very similar hub last week upon hearing about Napalitanos memorandum and It pissed me off too. I am sure my file will be getting thicker In days to come . I do not consider myself to be extreme In one way or another . I will state the erosion of civil rights started on Dubyas watch . But Obama also voted yes on the bill that stated you could not sue telecommunications companies for Invasion of your privacy ,the fisa act. This was when he was still a Senator.

I agree that the constitution Is being bastardized . And I also think that Pelosi ,Napalitano , Frank and the like are killing this country . Our borders are not enforced and I thought they took an oath to uphold the Constitution . And I am a Democrat ,but I believe of the more moderate variety . As far as the far left goes they preach tolerance until their view Is opposed , they have a term for that , Hypocrisy ! I saw the news about Tancredo and I thought It was disgusting . Even though I do not agree with all his views , I believe that they should have extended him the courtesy of letting him say what he has to say . But the problem Is the Professors on College campuses poisoning the minds of the younger people .

Exscuse me there Is a black helicopter at my window .

I probably have been classified as domestic terrorist by KGB long ago, it won't surprise me a tiny bit when Homeland Security does the same - at the end this is the same institution just grown on another soil...

Missouri had a similar flap with the highway patrol not too long ago. Oddly enough it was just after a Democrat took office. The MOHP released a report that said much the same thing the Homeland Security one did. I don't remember if they used info form the Homeland Security report that was obviously being written at the time, but one would think the HP had advanced copies of the draft being circulated law enforcement agencies at the time.

http://blog.robertringer.com/2009/04/27/sieg-heil/ Robert Ringer has a bit to say about the left wing, or as I like to call them Progressives. It's interesting how they demand that people listen to them and follow their agenda, but when someone disagrees, out come the pitchforks, torches and ropes.

Napolitano's version Jeff Foxworthy's "you maybe a redneck if" everything fits. So you maybe a terrorist if you think Taco Bell is the Mexican Phone Company. You maybe a terrorist if you think Sherlock Holmes is a housing project down in Biloxi. You maybe a terrorist if you got stopped by a state trooper. He asked you if you had an I.D. And you said, 'Bout What?' You maybe a terrorist if you carried a fishing pole into Sea World. If you can burp and say your name at the same time, you're shur'nuff a terrorist.

Sorry, this is just so ridiculous it's laughable.

Thank you for a clear, cogent, and very precise hub. I have read much of what the founding fathers put into writing, and you are right on track. It is too bad that some people think socialism is any kind of answer at all. For me, the only answer is less central govt., more local government, lower taxes (which by the way means less products supplied by an inefficient govt.) and increased individual freedoms. For me, this final one is perhaps the most critical. Regardless of consequences, whenever anything bad happens nowdays, the instant solution is to pass more laws. Not the answer. The answer lies in our willilngness as a people to take personal responsibility for our actions and suffer the consequences, whether they are good or bad, of our decisions.
