You got hurt

That I was unable to prevent it

That you didn't know your mind

That you found out the hard way

That you gave me permission

That I have always been here

That I let you down

That I didn't put a stop to it

That I didn't leave sooner

That I gave you the power

That I am human

That you expected me not to be

I wrote this poem when my spouse blamed me for all of our problems. Expectations and reality are on completely different levels. This was a harsh lesson for him to learn. He expected me to always know what he is really feeling not what he was saying. The term yes means no applies here. Saying that you can then changing your mind after the fact is not our fault. We are not mind readers just as you tell us you are not. My spouse tells me that I should have known he was not ok with it. He does not care that he not only said its ok but that he was so happy for it. I still should have known.

I am but a human on this earth

Forgive my common birth

Not a god or even part

Just a human

As fallible as you love

Not psychic or psychotic

Just a woman here in pain

I am sorry

I am lowly by birth

Forgive me i had not the strength

To lift you as your world came crashing down
