Is Hub Supportive Enough For Newbies?
57Ghost Land
I am the Ghost Who Writes
Let me be clear, I’m not the Ghost Who Walks...he’s a myth and a cartoon. I’m real, although I must say my 7 hubs and the lack of response or fans has me wondering if I actually exist. It would appear that people are reading them, it’s just no-one seems to want to say anything, or participate in the polls.
So what’s going on? I see other Hubbers with fans and people who comment etc. So I thought I’d join, become a fan of some writers, post some comments, and write some articles expecting this to be a mutual exchange community...you know a bit like Twitter where you follow someone and they follow you. If they don’t ‘follow’ you then why bother? Unless of course you want something from them.
This doesn’t seem to be the case here at the Hub. Sweetie Pie suggested I write a Hub about this. I’m feeling a little uncertain about this however, as I don’t want to appear like I’m complaining here. I certainly appreciate people reading my articles, but I’d like feedback, interaction, and fans. I’ve been here a month and no-one has become a fan. So what do you have to do?
Hello! Is there anybody out there? I’d do a poll but no-one seems interested. There seems to be a lot of people in here, and plenty of people who say they love Hub, but where’s the support? Perhaps for every new member, there could be some sort of welcoming process, where 2 or more of the mainstay or more experienced writers would become a buddy/fan of the newbie, and offer support, encouragement and/or feedback?
At the moment, I certainly don’t feel very supported and/or acknowledged. Perhaps it’s my subjects, writing, personality, but I would never know without feedback or interaction. This is how it is for people who develop mental illnesses in society. If they are not acknowledged or listened to, they begin to question their motives, personality and whether they actually exist – maybe it’s the way I walk, talk, look etc, that’s why I have no friends...in short, I’m an alien/ghost doomed to wandering the shores of humanity, witnessing its life, but never truly belonging here.
The metaphor may be extreme but that’s how it is for many people who are not seen...’children should be seen and not heard’. The experience of Hub reminds me of a couple of things...like double opt in Safe Lists and friendship. Does anyone ever read these emails or do they just click for the credit? And you can’t force attention from friends; you can only request it...if the relationship is not mutual then why bother with it?
I enjoy writing and sharing knowledge, but without feedback, I guess I should just write in my diary...in other words, without the interaction there’s no point. It’s certainly not for the Adsense.
Okay, so I don’t want this to be a rant and I’ll finish by asking a couple of questions to Hub users.
Have you found Hub supportive? What’s your experience of being a writer here?
All the best

Many hubbers have written hubs to help. Check out
Thanks Paper Moon and Fortunerep for taking the time to comment - nice to know someone's 'out there'...and for your advice.
Also thank you FR for becoming a fan.
Have you been commenting on other peoples' hubs and participating in the forums? Although I have to admit that part of being "popular" here are the topics you write about and the entertainment level of your online personality.
If you work at it you can have fans and comments. But I'll reassure you that neither are necessary to have lots of traffic and make lots of money - if that's what your here for.
Thanks Nelle
Yes commenting...no for the forum side. I enjoy writing...I'd be surprised if I made any money from this. I think the interaction and feedback makes it more worthwhile...although I admit there is a commercial interest as well.
Nice to hear from you and thanks
I need not add anything else, as you have already been told what to do. Just to let you know my second hub "The other side of subprime loans" was rated the second best hub on hubnuggets forum. Dont feel disheartened or something. You will shine through im sure. All the best and keep writing.
Thanks jayb23...feeling much more part of Hub now. I'll be sure to check out subprime loans. Thanks for your encouragement...all the best.

Hello amadavit!
I too am new here, 4 weeks to be exact, just like you. For the first week or so I didn't have any fans either. It is very discouraging.
As a newbie, I started getting higher hub scores, more comments, and even fans when I started doing a few simple things. Simply reading other people's hubs and making comments isn't enough. Get involved in the forums. Ask questions for people to respond to and most importantly: participate in the weekly HubMob! This has truly helped me start to get noticed.
I hope these ideas will help you. Hang in there...HubPages is a great community and people will come around.
I am proud to be your first fan and good luck to you : ) Please don't give up.
