I am your hubpages guru, and I've only been here 2 days?

What do I know really?

What a blatant concept, and yet one that we see all too often. Yes it's true that I have been a member of hub-pages for only a couple days, and the title of this article seems quite condescending and that is to prove a point, please allow me to clarify.

I have been looking for advice here to see what works and what doesn't, and I have to say that it is quite humorous to me the fact that some people have been here for very little time yet the advice given on how to be successful is abundant.

What about the time and dedication of the authors who have been here for at least a few month's or years...Don't you think that the advice they have to give is a little more important and honest than a "newbie" who has a couple of posts (i raise my hand to volunteer as both) with attention grabbing titles and get rich quick ideas which have not been proven here?

To say the least, when I look for information and it is coming from a young pup like myself, I tend to ignore what is written and often times I don't read the full article as I have seen it before on other similar sites. I guess you can call it a case of the "blind leading the blind"...and yes, the blind can lead each other, but the mentor needs some experience or he/she will be leading the students into the ditch.

So here is I guess what you would call a "guide to finding a good guide"?

1. Experience matters, yes the old dogs CAN learn new tricks and the teaching's they give are MUCH more useful than what the many of us pups can claim is "working for them".

2. Catchy titles are nice, but just because it has "how to" in the title does not mean that the author him/herself indeed knows "how to", or for that matter is indeed "being successful". Check the post count and rating and you will filter out a lot of the hype builders.

3. ...I am new, I must learn and the best advice I can give could easily be overshadowed by people who have been here longer. I hope you "old dogs" will have some advice in the comments because i am already running out of things to say. When that happens i tend to shut up because ideas which "pour out of the mind are more pure than what has to be dug out"

Interesting.. My favorite is the "how to make money online" hubs from people with "makemoney" type names, but in their hub it give the same old advice from everywhere and it's nothing new or improved. I'm not a big fan of beginners writing how to's for a site (any site), especially when it's a big long block of text without anything to break up the words. That's not a good how to use a website when the authore doesn't even know how to use the tools. Ya know?

I've been here 8 months and am still open to new tips and suggestions, whether from a pup or an old dog.

LOL I've been here several months and I am just now learning how to use the capsules! I would be posting advice on pretty much anything except "how to's" in HP LOL.

I guess I am way too new to be considered a "source" for anything. I must admit most of the learning I have experienced is by trial and err and observation. There are however, many great "guru's" who are vastly more experienced than I to offer help here. What I have learned is that if you want to find something out, truly, and you are not just trying to promote one of your HUBS, the forums are a nice place to start. Danger- they spot a user a mile away. Also, people are generally kind and will be gentle if you are really interested in learning. Good luck and have fun. Welcome, from a fellow newbie.

jimmythejock thats is right on! Great tips from everyone, and valuable friends made...as George Macdonald(1824-1905)author/poet/christian minister said:

"Friends, if we be honest with ourselves we shall be honest with each other".

I do apologize for the delay replying to your comments but i have been spying on you all and seeing your contributions to hubpages. I am humbled. The "old dog's" that have responded is overwhelming and no doubts you are all strong allies for a learning pup.

I must admit I am honored by the fans(I feel i have not earned it yet) I have already recieved and I will definately be spending my time looking to you all for quality and a standard i want to develop.

Yenseca - I am also a Hub pages "newbie" and I have been blown away by the support and friendliness of this community. I feel like I know many of these people personally and I seek out and value their advice and opinions (in addition to really enjoying their well-written, informative, and entertaining hubs). I look forward to reading many more hubs from you in the future.

I have to say after 5 days I am really becoming a "hub-a-holic". The support and friendliness is very amazing as sdorrian pointed out. I often find myself awake and unable to sleep with article ideas or even going over my hubs in order to improve them.

I did have the misfortune of writing a hub and then the spellchecker crashed my FireFox...Oh Me Oh My! I had to re-write it. Always save your work! even if your article isn't to your liking it's better to have something to improve on then to start over completely! especially when you have half a dozen links ha-ha.
