I got a new cat.

Any one who is anyone on hubpages, must by now have heard of Frogdropping. Frogdropping is a cute and funnylittle frog. Frogdropping is sweet. Or so it seems. Sometimes Froggy is a bit bitter. Sometimes the cute little frog can be down right pernicious.

Frogdropping loves animals of all sorts. She actually has a dragon! (I think this should have given me a clue)

Frogdropping also rants and raves about Bengals. She has a Hub on them  In this hub, Froggy is trying to get people to buy a Bengal as a pet. As a loving father, I wanted to buy a pet for one of my sons. He has a big heart. He wanted a pet of his very own. He could give it all of his love and affection, and I could teach him about responsibility by having him care for the animal. So I read on. The last paragraph stated-

"Personally, as a Bengal cat owner of some years, I have no problem recommending anyone to think about Bengals as a future pet. But – do your homework first."

This sounded reasonable. What would be a good site that has information on a wide variety of subjects? I had to think long and hard. Then it hit me. HuPages! So I cued my search and found the hub that I needed for my homework.

I got some good background information. I was ready to buy. I started looking for a reputable breeder. I found that they were much more expensive than Frogdropping had said. Okay, maybe I would not go through a reputable breeder. On top of being expensive, they required lots of paper work. This must be some fancy cat. I did not have to fill out any paperwork for my two Siamese cats. I finally found someone who would deliver, with out the excess paperwork.

The night I got my new Bengal I was so excited. Also a little surprised how big they were. I guess being a frog with a dragon, she forgot to mention the problem with size. At least my new kitty was not as big as Kevin.

"you know how cats can be"
"you know how cats can be"

The problems started the first night. First, our two Siamese disappeared. At first I thought that they were just refusing to share the litter box with a new arrival. You know how cats can be. Then I found that our new cat was not litter box trained.

Our son Arri was nervous approaching his new cat, but after much coaxing, tried to bond with him. We asked him what he would name his new cat. He proudly told us that he was going to call his new cat "Fluffy". It was kind of late so we told Arri that him and Fluffy would have to get ready for bed. Arri told us that he did not want to sleep with his new cat. This was understandable. It would take time for them to bond.

Not my Bullmastiff. He was much more cute than this one. I was too tired to find a pic.
Not my Bullmastiff. He was much more cute than this one. I was too tired to find a pic.

So we locked Fluffy in the mudroom with our Bull-mastiff, Boris. I know what you are thinking, poor cat locked in a room with such a big dog.  Not to worry,  our Bullmastiff is a gentle dog. We caught Boris licking baby bunnies in our back yard last summer. He was so sweet.  The next morning, we could not find Boris anywhere.  A prowler must have broken in during the night. and Boris must have given chase, as he was gone in the morning, but Fluffy was still there..

We decided that it was feeding time. We sent our son Arri in to feed Fluffy. That damned cat took a swipe at him. They are not nice cats. i am starting to think that this was some sort of a cruel joke that Frogdropping played. I mean really, who lives with a dragon?

My son Arri with his new kitty.

I think you should try for a cat wearing a melon hat; they may look grumpy but unlike Siamese they don't sneak out at night to make out!

*makes out in the open*

It was Roy. He lost half his skull to that cat. I am not kidding when I tell you that I'm pretty sure they removed the skull and sewed it into a pouch in his stomach.

Yeah, get your kid a tiger, PM!!!

Wow. You don't say what you paid for your Bengal, but whoa. Dude. Don't you know there are cats on top of cats out there that you can pick up for free? There's even a common superstition that states that it's bad luck to pay for a cat. I guess must be some truth to it. I never heard of a Bengal until your hub--thanks for that! I learned something.

If it makes you feel any better, my 'free' cat (and I do adore him) learned to open the freezer and turn on the water in the sink and the bath tub when he was a kitten. Found all the food on the floor and the freezer door open one day after work. Kept finding all the water on too until I caught him doing both these things and took appropriate measure to prevent, well, everything.

He's mellowed a lot in five years. Now he just torments the dog.

Paper Moon profile image

Paper Moon  says:

As any free spirited cat should. We now suspect that the Bengal was not just a cat, but a tiger. We also think he may have eaten our cats and dog. No matter, it is BlondePoet's problem now. I think frogdropping brainwashed her too.

Tigers and bengals are 2 diff things! The poor bengal is suffering from identity crisis.. "am I a tiger? am I a house kitty?" Maybe you just need to hire the "pet whisperer" for him to sort out some of his.. um... issues?

Janetta profile image

Janetta  says:

LMAO--you may want to wrap Arri in bubblewrap before you let him play with his new 'kitty' again! And make sure he hasn't eaten any meat porducts at least three days before approaching....

Paper Moon profile image

Paper Moon  says:

Candie- But he is a Bengal Tiger! Identity issues? Now my poor son Arri has identity issues! Damned cat!

Janetta- that is a good idea. Let the cat get used to him. :)

I wonder what size melon would fit on his head, and I also wonder if he would take that notion better than Nazishnasim's avatar kitty would. (I think that is the best avatar on HP btw :)

Great Hub PM :)

One family trapped a wild mountain line and raised it as a pet, but donated it to the Big Bear Zoo when it attacked their son. Thought it was prettty brazen to raise a mountain lion like a tame little kitty lol.

Paper - you were drunk and not in charge. Of your senses. I'm right. I am. I can feel in in my well manicured flippers.

And you bumped into that lying bloody iguana seller. I can feel that in my left elbow. I bet you walked into his shimmery, smokin' bar thinking woohooo' Take it from me Paper ... the one thinking woohooo the loudest was him when you walked in.

And however big a mistake you made Paper. Trust me. You could have made one a whole lot bigger. Lucky for you that that lyin' sneakin' no good sack of badly practiced magic was all out of Dragons.

And thankyou very much :) I actually thought you'd bought a new cat. I was happy as a bee in a field of pollen and was thinking to email your wife and congratulate her!

Sweetie Pie- Imagine raising a mountain lion as a family pet! What were they thinking?

Christoph- You think?

Froggy! First you tell me to get a Bengal, then you send me to this strange bar, and now you tell me? It is a good thing he was out of dragons, they probably have worse gas than Bengals!

Sixtyorso? I hope not. I would hate to be blamed for loosing our resident blondepoet. (mind you, I would just blame the frog)

Eric- as least you went to the pound and did not get your pet from Froggies connection!

Wow, Bengals seem very not tame! This I may like for myself, but I also have kids. I guess having a dragon should have been your first clue, but Bengals are sooo cute looking! And hey, what's wrong with mountain lions?

LOL, love this funny hub! Thanks for the laugh!

People living in the city move the mountains and go a little bonkers. Once when I was a teen some tourists were calling our dog a "mountain dog," as if if were so sort of attraction unlike the types people find in the city. One man even found a family having a picnic on his lawn once because they thought it was part of the forest.

frogdropping profile image

Paper - I'd avoid that lying no good bloody iguana seller at all costs. Take it from one who knows. Kevin was cheap. To buy. It's the keeping that's expensive.

And don't get me started on Dinner. Poor little buggers. I'm not as immune to watching Kevins' horrible table manners as others might be. And at least your Bengal will accept food that has expired previously to landing in its line of sight.

And I suspect your Bengal has a lot more finesse. And doesn't shout 'BOO' and anything loosely connected to its food groups ...

Well, I certainly find the cardboard sky you sail over a fascinating. You are, I see, though, much much more than a paper moon. We had similar misadventures with a few of my mother's beloved Siamese darlings. Some showed a lot more, shall we say, "character" than others. Thanks for the most enjoyable read.

K@ri- Yes, this should have been my first clue. Yes, he is gorgeous.

Bigplay- I do not think that they can be tamed. Froggy did imply it, so I tried it…

SweetiePie- they would not have been picnicking if the man had Fluffy!

Froggy- caveat emptor.

Ethel- don’t you just wanna scratch him behind the ears?

RedElf- Siamese are full of “character” I am glad you enjoyed

RedElf- NP! Now you have me singing it in my head. :)
