I have TEN dogs???
57My furry, four-legged children...
Being born and raised in the south with a father that I love very much, but that defines the word "Redneck", I've had ALOT of dogs over the years. Ive been around them my entire life, and I'm sure thats where my love for them was born in me.
Ive always had at least one dog...at least that was the case up until the past five years or so. To go forward with this, I guess Im gonna' have to go back a spell...Tatu, a springer spaniel mix, is the oldest dog I have right now. I found him at an apartment complex I moved into when I first moved here back in 1995. He was being reared by a mother cat, which I found really fascinating. When we "adopted" Tatu, something changed in me. Ive always had a strong love for animals, especially dogs, but something about this one and the circumstances surrounding him coming to be with us did something to me to multiply that by a large degree. Now I cant stand to see any dog go without or being ill treated. Ive dropped hundreds and hundreds of dollars on dogs that didnt even belong to me to take them to the vet for treatment when their owners either couldnt, or wouldnt simply because I didnt want them to suffer and die. I really cant stand the thought of that. This overwhelming love for dogs comes to me with a fault, however....I probably have more compassion for dogs or animals in general than I do for people. that doesnt mean I have no regard for people. I didnt mean that at all. I simply meant that my compassion for animals is stronger. I guess someone needs to feel that way...
After Tatu, we got Foozwah. A lhasa apso mix thats blind in one eye and just a year younger than Tatu, bless her heart. She came to us as a pup and Tatu wouldnt leave her side. It was sweet to see. She went to my "ex" best friend for a few years, but eventually, she was back with us.
Next was Lilo. A chihuahua mix. She belonged to the people that used to live right behind us. They moved and were gonna take the dog to the pound but my wife and I said we would take her instead. thats been about 5 years or so ago.
After that came Doc, a full blooded dachshund that came here with my sister in law when she moved in with us. We naturally didnt have any problem with it. When she first brought him here, she carried him in her purse. The 'cute meter' for that event was off the scale...lol...Naturally, when Doc was old enough, he and Lilo hooked up, no pun intended, and we were blessed with a litter of cute babies...Unfortunately, all but one of them died. The one we were able to save, I named Punkin, and shes still here too.
One litter, as we were to find out, wasnt to be enough, and Lilo came up preggers again. This time, they all lived and lucky for us, we had all the pups homes before they were ever even weaned...save one....Wicket. She turned out to be a long haired mini, and she adopted me...Unless Im mistaken, shes asleep in the laundry basket....lol.
Two litters wasnt the end either as Lilo and Doc had yet another litter of healthy pups. We found all of them really good homes and gave one to my mother in law...Sassy, and we see her most every day...
Doc was 'snipped' after that, and not a moment too soon either...Next came Pepper, a chihuahua, wire haired terrier mix whose owner was going to leave in an empty house with no power on a night when it was suppose to drop to 17 degrees..Real sweet...Some people really piss me off. Anyway, we took her in ' for the night', and her owner never came back...not ever..Not even to check on her...
Next came Sandy, a shi tzu, lhasa apso mix that once belonged to my niece. Her uncle, father, or whatever you wanna call him, called here one day threatening to take her pup to the pound because she was chewing things up..Duh!!..Dumbass!! Thats what pups do. Anyway, I couldnt have him take that baby to the pound and told Nat, my sister in law to please go pick her up, and shes been here ever since....
Sweet Pea is a weird mutt mixture that I really cant even start to define, but we love her anyway. She was in a chain link fence with her brothers and sisters and her mother as they were dropping like flies to parvo and their stupid ass owner just waiting around for them all to die off...'asshole'..Anyway, I couldnt save them all, but sweet pea was the 'runt of the litter, so I opted for her...and shes still here.....
Lastly comes "Baby", a very cut chihuahua, pomeranian mix from a dirt bag..umm "fellow" that lives in the park next door. We found her wandering around in the road, in the rain, and locked out of her house with her owner gone to work. We told one of his friends that was going to where he works that we had her and to please tell him, but we never seen him...We found out why too. The poor thing was vomitting up huge roundworms...I guess he didnt want to incur a vet bill...so I incurred it for him.....and was happy to do it. She has since adopted my sister in law..lol.
Anyway, thats the list. Those are my ten dogs...my ten furry babies and I love them very much. Ive learned alot through them I must say. Mostly I think Ive learned how hard people can be..How cruel and careless they are.....and how some people on this planet we all share simply have no hearts or souls...no conscience to speak of, and somehow can live with themselves and get up in the morning..I guess its because of people like them, that people like me are here....I would adopt them all if I could.....
Thank you for your time...Do something good today, and remember...Life is what happens when you're making other plans,,,,,
