I need help taking care of my loved one
59Caring and Keeping My Loved One in the Home
I know sometimes it is difficult to care for a Loved One. If you find yourself in this situation there are several things that you can do:
1. Seek Help from people in the community: Church, ministry groups, old friends, neighbor, community groups, and etc.
2. Take steps to identify available options for your loved one. Althought they may not need help now, you never know when a crisis may occur. Now is a good time to look into longterm care insurance. Rememeber that longterm care is not only for seniors, more and more younger adults and children are needing longterm care insurance.
3. Create a list of all the prescriptions and over-the-counter medications along with doses and schedules. This will assist with medical emergencies and doctor visits. Be sure to update with any changes.
4. Find out about resources and service networks. This will aid you in finding out what your community has to offer.
5. Identify and remove any potential hazards and safety concerns.
6. Locate a good agency that provides care in the home. Please make sure that you interview at least two agency also ask the agency to supply you references from past and present clients.
