What? For Me?

Indeed, spoiled. I was given a non occasional surprise gift about a month ago. This white and metallic blue motorized electrical starting Scooter.

I love her now, but I hated her after our first encounter, our first ride 10 minutes after they delivered her. The whole thing was just overwhelming I didn't know what to think.

  • I need a special liscence, Okay.
  • Also a 2 part driving license and 2 day safety course, Okay.
  • A leather safety Jacket that matched the bike obviously, no problem there.
  • A helmet to match the jacket, white, Okay but dreading helmet hair.
  • Gloves for warmth and to prevent blisters and sores, oh leather? Okay.
  • High leather boots to protect ankles and feet, What? Flat heel?, well, Okay.
  • Additional storage compartment for purse and girl stuff (High heeled boots when walking), Cool.
  • Raingear for emergency, Right.
  • Scooter Cover while not being used, Whew, ya.
  • Legging coverings, leather. STOP. Enough now can I just have the keys and I promise to ride only underground here in the parking lot until I have my first half of my license.

Holy Shit. I honestly figured I would be wobbly but I couldn't even push it and not handle it backwards. I am 105 pounds, this scooter is about 185 pounds - I accelerated once fell with the bike on me and couldn't lift it off. It wasn't even about being embarrassed anymore. This was repeating itself trial, after trial, after trial. This was about me believing I was not strong enough to operate a scooter, not motorcycle, but a scooter, I see tons of girls driving.

I, in my hissy fit, needed help to put it even on the kick stand-no way I could alone. Went upstairs closed my bedroom door and cried. I felt so inadequate, I couldn't co ordinate the throttle and brakes at the appropriate times also. Not to mention the pressure of showing the person who gave it to me I was loving it.

It took 2 days for me to get the courage to try again when everything was exactly the same as the last time. And of course you always have loved ones swearing you'll get the hang of it eventually. Well I was the one swearing a lot more than them, i'll tell you. I can't ever remember feeling that frustrated and incapable (maybe with the exception of my wedding). Focus Kim, focus.

Okay, so another 2 tries on different occasions showed slight improvement. It wasn't until last week that my loved ones swearing started paying off. This started to work when I would practice alone and for very short periods of time, like 15 minutes.

The bike is not too heavy for me, heavy, but movable now and I am learning how to shift my weight and brake properly, turning is the hard part for me now. But as much as I hate when people are right, he was. I am getting the hang of it and I love it so much. Can't wait to be out on those roads, and here in Toronto, that should be about the time we drop below 0*.

I never have had much patience, but I am so grateful I did now, she's my scooter and I love her. :-)

I'm in Heaven

I'm in Heaven, practicing underground!
I'm in Heaven, practicing underground!

Not Sento, but very informative-scooter walk around

What Do You Predict?

I have practiced 5 times will need 2 stages and safety course for license. Will I make my October 2nd Goal to be on the road (legally?)

  • Yes, but you'll still have to take it slowly and be safe and learn.
  • No, Dude you can't even lift it up on it's kick stand yet!
  • You'll have your written done but need more practice before the road test.

Kimberly...YOU ROCK!

2 wheels are better than 4 any day. Something tells me that you, leathers and myself are going to make a long history.

I know where you can pick up a killer looking pair of leather biker boots ;)

Hey Kimberley,

You know, I'm not sure which part of this is the best, the article (hub), you on the bike, or just you?! The one thing I will say is be careful when on the road, I appreciate you are learning the right things, but it's normally the ignorance of other road users will keep you on your toes.

Best of luck and enjoy.

Darren.
