Is Your Twitter User Name Worth Money?

I have been seeing stuff about people selling their Twitter user names. I know that this is against the Twitter terms of use, and they really frown on name squatting. Some people have said that it will be very similar to 1995 when domain names were the big thing. I think that could very well happen. Of course because it's Twitter, and not the whole web, and there are different rules for each, people may have to conduct these transactions privately.

Here is an article I thought was cool, and you might enjoy it.

How much is your Twitter username worth? $300? $400? $1000?

May 1st, 2009 | by Pete Cashmore

With only a limited number of Twitter names available and many of the good ones already taken, it was perhaps inevitable that a market would spring up for Twitter username sales.

That was the thought that occurred to Craig Agranoff, one of the founders of the crowdsourcing site VOIS.com: today he’s launching an aftermarket for Twitter names at Tweexchange.com. (Incidentally, Agranoff claims to have hired a developer for the project through the VOIS service itself for under $1000.)

In anycase, there is a site dedicated to just that. They seem to have a nice system in place, I havn't placed a user name for sale, but if I come up with that awesome name I just might :)

I just caught the name friendsters on twitter. Sounds like friendster. Not using it and it has potentials. You might be interested? :)
