Inntroduction

The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (popularly known as IIT-JEE or just JEE) is the entrance examination for the prestigious IITs in India. In this yearly test,including IT-BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad ,a total of nine colleges use it as a sole criterion for admission to their undergraduate programs. The remaining seven are IITs.From this year onwards, newly established intsitutes such as Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Kolkata, Pune & Mohali and Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST) are also admitting students through the JEE .JEE is conducted by the various IITs by a policy of rotation.This year it is conducted by IIT-Roorkie. It is considered to be the toughest engineering entrance exam in the world .It has a success rate of only 1 in 50.

Students who get through the IIT-JEE can apply for admission to the following courses:

  • B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture)
  • BDes (Bachelor of Design)
  • BTech (Bachelor of Technology)
  • Dual Degree (Integrated Bachelor of Technology and Masters of Technology)
  • Integrated MSc (Master of Sciences)
  • Dual Degree (Integrated Bachelor of Technology and Masters of Technology)
  • Integrated MSc (Master of Sciences).

Achieving entrance into an IIT is considered to be the greatest of achievement for a student of the sciences.

JEE 2008 Pattern

IIT JEE-2008 was conducted on April 13, 2008 in the same pattern as JEE-2007 containing Paper-I & Paper-II.It has two papers of three hours duration each. Both the papers contained maths, physics and chemistry sections together. The syllabus based on CBSE Board Examination (AISSCE) and the ISC Board Examination topics.But all topics of the AISSCE and the ISC are not included in the JEE syllabus. The pattern of questions in JEE is variable so as to minimize the chance of students getting selected by byhearting the probable questions. Currently, the examination has objective type question paper for all the subjects and uses machine readable OMR sheets.IIT-Roorkie has conducted the present test.
