IIT or Indian Institute of Technology

 

India’s most prestigious institutes are the Indian Institute of Technology and they have a common entrance exam to induct students into the B.Tech or the Bachelor of Technology undergraduate courses.

 

The Joint Entrance examination is conducted on a rotation basis by each of the institutes which are about seven now and will be going up to 13 in the year 2009.

 

JEE 2009 was conducted on the same pattern as the 2008 with the exam having only objective type questions. The iitjeeresults are also generally available on iit website of all institutes.

 

The seven institutes are

 

IIT Mumbai or iit m

IIT Kanpur or iit k

IIT Delhi or iit d

IIT Chennai or iit c

IIT Kharagpur or iit kgp

IIT Guwahati or iit g

IIT Roorkee or iit r

IT-BHU Varanasi  or iit b

ISM Dhanbad.

Results of IIT

 

The JEE is conducted in the month of April and the iitresults are declared in May.

 

From year 2000 – 2005 the JEE had the screening test which was discontinued in the year 2006. From that year onwards only the objective type test has been conducted.

 

It is considered to the toughest exam in the word and IITians are considered to be the crème de la crème of the Indian students.

 

Six new IIT’s

 

From existing seven now there will thirteen IIT’s and these new ones are

 

IIT Patna

IIT Rajasthan

IIT Hyderabad

IIT Bhubaneswar

IIT Gandhinagar

IIT Punjab,

Another set of new ones which are being proposed are the

IIT Indore

IIT Himachal Pradesh

 

The first IIT was set up in 1950 in Kharagpur and is known as iit kgp and these institutes are known as institutes of national importance.

The other IITs were set up in years as mentioned Mumbai (1958), Chennai (1959), Kanpur (1959), and Delhi (1961).

The total number of seats is about 5500 and the number of people taking part in iit-jee are about 3,000,000. This is a ratio of about 1 in 60 candidates to be selected.

The institutes offer the B.Tech as well as the Dual degrees which are the integrated five year courses for the combined M.tech.

Each of these institutes receives a good amount of grant from the Government of India and they are set up as autonomous bodies. These autonomous institutes have the best of the infrastructure and the government funding to the tune of USD 8-12 million is by far the larges which is doled out the Indian Government.
