IMMEDIATE DENTURES

Nowadays Immediate Dentures are quite catching up in dentistry from aesthetic point of view.

Things to be taken care of before the immediate dentures are fabricated-

1) General health of the patient is considered.

2) For the success of this treatment, health of supporting teeth is more important.

3) Any surgeries if required are done prior to the extraction.

4) Last but not the least patient should be informed priory about the cost.

PROCEDURE

In immediate dentures, an impression is taken before the extraction of teeth. Teeth to be extracted are marked on the cast. Those very teeth are removed with the help of BP blade on the cast itself and are sent to the lab for the fabrication of bridge.

On the second appointment when patient comes for the extraction, teeth are removed from the oral cavity. Patient is asked to wait for 30 minutes, so that bleeding stops. As soon as bleeding stops bridge is placed with the help of dental cements.

ADVANTAGES

1) Aesthetics- If front teeth are extracted then immediate dentures is a good option as far as aesthetics are concerned.

2) Least Compliance- In this after extraction, bridge is placed in oral cavity, so patient compliance is less.

DISADVANTAGES

1)Discomfort- For 1 or 2 days, patient will feel discomfort at the site of extraction and may also feel pain, but that can be overcome with the help of medicines.

2) Difficulty in chewing-Patient may feel uncomfortable while chewing, but that can be overcome if patient takes soft diet for few days.
