1947 TO 1957

This is first part of my series of My Collection of Indian First day Covers.This covers from 1947 to 1957.This is my collections only.Not complete list.India got independence in 1947.After independence Indain postage released lot of stamps of interesting informative and beautiful stamps and first day covers.

India attained her Independence on 15th August 1947,but the three stamps were issued latter.The one with National Flag on 21st November and other two with Ashoka Capital and Modern Aircraft on 15th December 1947.

The FDA below is Ashoka Capital issued on 15th December 1947


Inauguration of India-UK Air Service

The first International flight by Indian State company Air India was held on 8th June 1948 to Uk.On commemoration a stamp was released on that day with Modern Air craft.That stamp was used only one day.The following First day Cover is the cover of that stamp.

During first anniversary of Indian Independence Indian postage released four Gandhi stamps valued 1.5 ana,3.5 ana,12 ana, and 10 rupees.They were printed in Switzerland by Courvisier S.A.La Chaux de Fonds,Switzerland by helogravura process

Archeological Series

First definive series of independent India were released in 1949.In July 1950 one of the stamp of Archeological series,the Bodhisattva was released again but with the statue in reversed position this time.My collection of this First day cover is from this 1950 reversed version (contains both version)

Indain Geological Survey of India centenary Issue

On commemoration of Indain Geological survey of India centenary on 13th January 1951 Indian Postage released a stamp with figure of Stegodon Ganesa in Black and Claret colour.It was valued 2 Anas.Ana the olden Indian coin was in use before 1956. In 1956 Indian Gonernment introduced Paise the hundredth fraction of Rupee the currency.16 Anas are equal to One Rupee.

First Asian Games-New DElhi

First Asian Games held in New Delhi capital of India,in the year 1951.Indian postage released two stmps on this occation on 4th March 1951 with torch for the value of 2Anas and 12 Anas.

Conquest of Mount Everest

On 29th May 1953 two great mountineers Sir.Edmond Hillary and Densing Norge reached top of Mount Everest.To commemorate this Indan Postage issued two stamps on 2nd October 1953 for denominations of 2 Anas and 14 Anas.

Air Transport Nationalisation

On 1st August 1953 two Airlines Air India,and Indian Airlines were nationalised.On mark this occation first cover and cancellation were issued .No stamp was issued.

Lokamanya Bal Ganghadar Tilak

On 23rd July 1953 Indain Postage issued a stamp honour India's freedom fighter and social reformist Lokamanya Tilak for 2 Anas denomination.

Centenary of Indian Mutiny

On 15th August 1957,Indian Independence day,issued two stamps on occation of Centenary of Indian Mutiny for freedom for denominations of 15 Paise and 90 Paise with figure of Rani of Jhansi and Shrine of Mutiners.

Red Cross Conference

19th International Red Cross Conference was held in New Delhi ,Indian capital in the year 1957.On 28th October 1957 Indian Postage issued a stamp on that occation for the denomination of 15 Paise with figure of Henri Dunant and Conference Emblem.

National Children's Day.

In India 14th october ,the birth day of Indias first Independent India,Pandit Jawaherlal Nehru is celebrated as National Children's day.In 1957 on that day Indian Postage issued three stamps with denominations of 8 Paise,15 Paise, and 90 Paise.
