IPL Cricket
61IPL or the Indian Premier League is a domestic Indian cricket tournament with an international flavor.
The IPL was launched in Sep 2007 when the bidding process was set in motion. Eight of highest bids were selected and eight city teams emerged. The teams are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur and Mohali.
The winners include Reliance Industries, GMR Holdings, Deccan Chronicle Group, India Cements, Emerging Media, Red Chilles Entertainment, United Breweries, consortium of owners for Mohali.
The matches will be in the hugely popular Twenty20 format and will feature top players almost 80 of them from around the world. 59 matches will be played over 44 days from Apr 18- June 1.
On Feb 20 an auction was held to bid for the 80 international cricketers who had signed up with the IPL. After intense bidding the 80 cricketers were sold with prices ranging from 1.5 million dollars to $100,000 dollars.
Dhoni and Symonds emerged as the top buys.
