Icons also called as pictograms play an very important role in communication. Use of icons in designs and art is from centuries. Symbols use to play a very important role in communication. Its a visual language.

Icons are very much used on the internet. Especially website designing. They are used in the menu sections of the website. For example an house symbol represents a home icon and so on. It enhances the website page designs.

Icon can be of different styles and sizes. The common format for icons is .png, .ico. eps. And the common sizes are 16x16,32x32,48x48. Formats like .eps can be scaled to any size. The common styles are rounded, aqua, glossy, vista icons, web 2.0 and sketch icons.

Icon can be created using different vector programs. The most popular are adobe illustrator and corel draw. Adobe illustrator provides more tools and scope for creativity. This softwares allow icons to be exported in various different common formats.

Icon can be designed individually or in sets. The most common sets are school icons,dog icons, education icons, finance icons, real estate icons, website icons, folder icons and software icons. The use of icons in softwares and applications have enhanced the visual of all the software applications.

Icons are also termed as signs or symbols. Symbols are very commonly used as road signs. They are used in billboards, posters, wallpapers and various other forms of communication.
