Where the Wild Things Are premieres on the big screen on October 16th. Are you planning a Where the Wild Things Are premiere, or birthday party? When I heard this movie was coming out I knew I had to put together some party ideas to go with it.

One of my favorite books growing up was Where The Wild Things Are, so of course when my son was born it was one of the first books I bought for him. We were so excited to hear they're making a full length feature film from this wonderful childhood favorite!

Cupcakes are my favorite for birthday parties, because they're so easy to make and decorate. You can top your cupcakes with fun sprinkles, small boats, or make these easy monster cupcakes from Family Fun to share with your guests.

If you're planning a Where The Wild Things Are party, take your craft and activity ideas straight from the book or movie. Here are a few of my favorites:

• Let all your guests make their own crown and sceptor out of card stock. Provide jewels and markers for them to decorate with.
  
• Use paper plates to make monster masks. You can punch holes in the paper plate and tie string through to make hair. Then draw on a face, and decorate it with bits of colored paper, beads, or markers.
• Let the kids make their own sailboat with bits of paper, cardboard, and toothpicks.
• Play the king says. Let one of the kids be king, and have the other kids be the monsters who have to obey the king (but only if the king says). Use the same rules you use for Simon Says.
• Have a costume contest, have the kids come dressed like their favorite Where The Wild Things Are Monster.
