New Year's Eve is almost here and that means that everyone is looking for something to do. Although they exist, the person who prefers to stay home alone and do nothing related to the New Year is relatively rare. Despite this, not everyone knows what they want to do to celebrate. For those people who want to do something but haven't quite picked an activity, here are ideas that might help you to ring in the new year:

o Last Minute Vacation. There are lots of cities that do spectacular things to ring in the New Year. If you're really looking to kick off 2008 with a bang, you might want to start it in another city. Better yet, you might want to head to another country. Last minute tickets can be pricey, especially to the most popular places for celebrating, but it sure would be a memorable way to start the year.

o Get dolled up and go out dancing. Most people want to get involved in the whole shebang of counting down to midnight with a group of people. That's easy to find at a bar and it's easy to stay awake at that bar if you're busy dancing. Just make sure you don't get too sloshed or the midnight kiss could turn into trouble! Take the dancing out into the streets afterwards and celebrate all the way home.

o Find a fountain and make a wish. This is one that you can do on your own, with a partner or as a group. There must be a fountain somewhere in the area near you. Take yourself there with a bottle of sparkling cider and some cheap champagne glasses. Toss in a penny, make a wish and toast to the year to come.

o Have a sleepover. Perhaps you don't really want to leave your home and fight the New Year's traffic and troubles. That's totally understandable. Throw an impromptu intimate party instead. Invite over the people you know. Tell them to bring pillows and pj's. Get out some board games and make a smorgasbord of snacks. Tell stories, be silly and sleep in the next day.

o Write letters of appreciation. If you want to stay in and stay by yourself, New Year's is a good time of year for some reflection. Write a letter of appreciation to everyone who did something nice for you in the year that just passed. This will start the new year off on the right foot: with friendship as the focus.

Of course, it's not just New Year's Eve that people celebrate. If you're more in the mind to go out during the day, then spend New Year's Day out and about. See the sights of your city. Take in a movie. Watch a New Year's parade (or be in one!) The new year is a good excuse to make some plans about how you want to spend the months to come. Start it off by putting one of those plans into action!
