A snore is one of the most annoying noises one could hear while sleeping. If you’re in a deep slumber, you would never want to be bothered by anything, most especially if you had a long, hard day. If you are someone who wakes up from your own snore, or has a partner who frequently gets less hours of sleep because of your snoring, then this article is for you. You don’t have to suffer this curse because there are actually a lot of ways in which you can minimize your snore.
Before you can actually start treating your condition, first, you have to identify the causes of your snoring. Since the interventions for this problem varies, we have to find out the root cause of it so that we can specifically choose the best ways to eliminate it.
The main cause of snoring is a constricted airway passageway. When people are asleep, the passageway is automatically narrowed because of the relaxed throat muscles. During this time, the air passing between the nose and the throat might hit the soft palate tissues and the uvula. Once air hits these, vibrations will be created and will eventually result to creating a snore.
To eliminate snoring, you should try to avoid making your air passage narrow. There are many other snoring causes and a contributing factor which could create a narrow airway is the way you sleep. Sleeping on your back could force your tongue and jaw to be pulled to the back of the mouth because of gravity. When both of these are pulled back, the airway passage becomes limited.
Another reason for snoring is a congested nose. This usually occurs when one has a cold. Of course, when your nose is stuffy, the airway passage will automatically be limited. When this happens, more air has to be pulled in from the mouth which will be a cause for snoring.
A person’s lifestyle can also be considered to cause this annoying noise. When a person is overweight, there is a possibility that he also has thicker throat tissues. And when you have thicker throat tissues, there is less space for the air to move around in. Drinking alcohol, on the other hand, has effects which promote muscle relaxation. When the throat muscles relax, just as sleeping on your back, your jaw and tongue could be pulled to the back of the mouth. Smoking could also cause snoring. Smoking, like asthma, could also constrict your air passages.
You don’t have to put up with this annoying habit. Just figure out what causes snoring and you’ll be able to pinpoint which interventions to utilize or which habits to forget.
