If you like George W. Bush... why?
49Yeah, I do
I like George W. because he is real. He stands up to criticism and doesn't back down on his principles. He doesn't give in to the latest fad, he is careful about making decisions and he doesn't have a bandwagon. I am so tired of popularity contests we used to call elections. I'm so sick of partisan politics that when we do vote in the guy we think will do the best job, he can't get any initiatives moved through congress. This has happened to both democrats and republican presidents since I was born in the 60s. Every president tries to do their best, and sometimes we get a crook, but nobody knows who will do the better job until they have finished their entire term. Maybe Bush isn't popular, but Reagan and Clinton weren't popular either during their administrations. The fact that these three presidents won second terms just goes to show that four years is not enough time to do anything to help this country let alone win any popularity contests. I would just like to say to the skeptics, "If you can do a better job, you run for president!"

I think BeenThere101 is dead on. I can't imaging running for president, especially as a Republican, but even as a Dem. Talk about needing a thick skin. Armor plated and bullet/bomb proof.
One of the annoying things Bush did was to skip hiring a PR department, which lets the opposition frame the debate in any way they choose. Image Clinton or Obama letting Rush Limbaugh and Co. define the debate and making no effort to counter that definition, and imaging the mainstream media pretty much agreeing with Limbaugh and Co. How do you think Obama and Clinton's image would hold up?
That was far and away his biggest mistake.
My point is that all of the criticism one reads about Bush should be taken with a big grain of salt.
Stupid? Not according to the world leaders he's constantly in touch with.
Lied about the war? Go back and read what the Dems were saying before the war. He's been more honest than much of the opposition.
Too optomistic about (issue?) In my view a world letter had damn well better be optomistic. If he goes into a war or establishes a policy he damn well better support it.
Went to way for oil? Oh really? Isn't that kinda like saying that Clinton went into Kosova to excape intern issues?
Faied foreign policy? Iraq will be a real, independent Nation, Khadaffi gave up his WMD program, Iran almost did a few years back, and there are others. Bush actually has a pretty good record here.
Ecomomic record? i think it speaks for itself. It's been pretty good for the last few years. Too bad he approves all the spending bills.
He's at least as honest as any other politician, he's much smarter than he appears, and he undertstands that one doesn't abandon commitments willy nilly.
I don't support all of his positions, immigration for one, signing the McCain Feingold censorship bill for another, but he deserves a lot more respect than he gets.
He gave 25 million women a hope they never had before, so I don't understand the feminist hate.
His record of bi-partisan accomplishment (and there's been quite a bit) is orders of magniture beyond what Obama (who's a solid left wing partisan) ever has or ever will accomplish.
He seems to be quite willing to shower money on various social programs so the nanny-state people should at least have a grudging respect.
So yeah, right or wrong he deserves a lot more respect than he gets.
Been there 101, this hub is short and to the point. I think it well sums up, my thoughts. I like the comments left by the other two hubbers as well....I agree withgems4friends. I respect that glassvisage states she's not a supporter but can find something positive to say about our president.

Thanks for your honesty. You always hear people bashing Bush (well, I'm one of them) while I rarely hear anyone praise him, and I wanted to see what would be said. I guess you can't argue that he doesn't give into the crowd...
