If you're stubborn and you know it, clap your hands

Stubborn, hard headed, call it what you will.  Anymore it seems that if we do not carry this trait ourselves, we know someone who does. Although, it may seem to make sense that those of us who are stubborn have a hard time admitting it.

The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines the word stubborn as :

1 a (1): unreasonably or perversely unyielding : mulish (2): justifiably unyielding : resolute b: suggestive or typical of a strong stubborn nature <a stubborn jaw>2: performed or carried on in an unyielding, obstinate, or persistent manner <stubborn effort>3: difficult to handle, manage, or treat <a stubborn cold>4: lasting <stubborn facts

I'm sure you can think of one if not several examples in your own life.  I have a few myself.  It is a frustrating trial to attempt the impossible of changing the stubborn person's mind.

An ant can't move a rubber tree plant

Attempting to change the mind of a stubborn person is fighting a losing battle. They often have had their minds made up long before they decided to talk to you about the subject.  Even when asking advice, these are the people who have ready made excuses for every option you throw out on the table.

It takes much patience and determination to get through to the hard headed ones.  Whether wanting them to abandon an idea or situation all together or to merely bend a little, it is a difficult task to move those who do not wish to be moved.

Hang in there, baby...

Possibly due to our own stubborness, many of us have attempted to change the minds of our opposition.  We are sure we are right and think others should feel the same way.  When they don't, well then it is because they are thehard headed ones, the ones who need to broaden their horizons.  It seems as if stubborness is a trait we all exhibit. At one point or another, in some circumstance somewhere, we will all be unwilling to budge on something.

You may be reading this, shaking your head and saying, "No, not me. I'm not that way. I listen to everyone's opinions and advice and use them.  I change my mind all the time."

But then, wouldn't that mean you're being stubborn about insisting you're not being stubborn?

Me? Stubborn? My husband laughs, slaps me on the back and says someone has finally written a hub about me.

I. Am. Not. Stubborn. And don't even think about arguing with me about it!

:-) Great hub, Janetta!
