The Illinois Department of Revenue does require that you file an annual income tax return form. The most used individual income tax form is Form IL-1040

What credits are available in the state of Illinois?

Property Tax Credit- For this credit you should use Schedule ICR

Education Expense Credit- For this credit you must use Schedule ED

Earned Income Credit- For this credit you must complete Worksheet IL-1040.

How do I file an extension?

If necessary the state of Illinois will grant you a six month extension to file your return. This extension will not allow more time if you owe taxes.

If you do owe state taxes then you must file Form IL-505-I. This will provide a payment extension beyond April 15th without having penalty and interest charges added on.
