Trying to Get Pregnant Quickly By Tracking Ovulation

It is very common that people will tell you to start tracking ovulation if they are trying to get pregnant quickly. In most cases, this can help. You have to remember though that there may be some other reason for you not getting pregnant yet so if there is indeed something else wrong, for example certain medical conditions such as endometriosis or other female issues such as irregular periods or not ovulating, trying to get pregnant quickly by tracking ovulation may not be effective.

However, if there is nothing wrong as you know of and you are pretty healthy and of a good age to conceive (30 years or younger), predicting ovulation and timing intercourse around these days should help your chances.

You can predict your ovulation using 3 different techniques. Basal body temperature charting, cervical mucus observation, or/and ovulation predictor kits.

Basal Body Temperature Charting - You would buy a basal body temperature thermometer and every morning after getting at least 4-5 hours of sleep, you would check your temperature and record the results on a chart. What you would be looking for is a temperature shift of at least .4 degrees F. You should also be taking this temperature around the same time each day to ensure better accuracy. After analyzing your chart for a few months, you should be able to tell when you are most likely to ovulate. If you are trying to get pregnant quickly, you should use this technique of determining your ovulation days in combination with another technique such as cervical mucus observation.

Cervical Mucus Observation - Your cervical mucous changes. Cervical mucus can be dry and sticky, creamy, wet, and raw egg white like. These are the changes among the consistency of cervical mucus. By observing these changes in the mucus, you can better determine when you are most likely ovulating.

The raw egg white like cervical mucus is a good sign of ovulation. This form is more fertile as it allows the sperm to swim through and survive in the vaginal environment, ultimately making it easier for the sperm to fertilize an egg.

What you should do is check your cervical mucus by inserting your finger in your vagina, close to the cervix, and observe your mucus. If the mucus seems dry and there is not really much to observe, then ovulation is probably not near. If it seems creamy, then ovulation might be close by but not at the moment. If it seems wet and kind of stretchy, then ovulation is probably close by. If it resembles raw egg whites, very wet, and when pressing two fingers together and then slowly pulling them apart, it stretches about an inch or more, ovulation is very close to happening and you are probably most fertile. This is the time to have intercourse.

You can also chart what you observe to get a better understanding of your cervical mucus changes which can help predict ovulation.

Ovulation Predictor Kits - These don't really require too much work on your behalf. All you have to do is test daily and find out when you are positive for LH surge. This means that when you get a positive using an ovulation predictor kit, you should have intercourse that day and a couple days after since ovulation is approaching or very near.

An ovulation predictor kit measures LH surge from urine and lets you know when there is peak LH surge present. A high LH surge usually indicates that ovulation is near. You usually will get a positive sign when the indicator on the test turns dark (dark line). You should try to test daily and make sure you don't use the urine from when you first wake up because it can interfere with the accuracy of the test.
