Importance of voting this election

This is a very important time for our country. Although most of us do not have any direct relationship with the government or it's policies, they are affecting our day to day lives. We are currently living in a country where our voice is not heard because we choose not to pay attention to what is happening around us.
For some reason, this year's election is very important and interesting to me personally. I am usually not the one to pay attention to what is happening in DC, which is ironic since I was raised there for most of my life. It didn't really effect me what lawmakers or the government supported or didn't support but lately it has become a personal issue.
As I am now in the working and 'real world' the days when I could choose to be naive are over. It upsets me that the same ideology that caused the crash of the economy and respect of this country, is even close to continuing their policies and governence. In my opinion, if something hasnt been working for EIGHT years, why give it another chance?
Why aren't the people of America all supporting the change, the hope and promises that things will be different? Is it because of skin color? I thought we were over that by now. But I guess not. It seems that the country is more afraid of someone who will fix things because they are different than someone who can only keep things the same because they are white.
It's about time that we came out of our comfort level. This is simply scientific, if it hasn't been working, try something new. McCain/Palin are followers of Bush and the republican support of big business and upperclass while Obama/Biden understand that in order for main street to rise once again, the middle class of this country must flourish once again. It's sad that McCain attempted to utilize Palin as a replacement for Hillary Clinton, they have nothing in common except for their sex. Palin does not support women's rights, gay rights, or animal's rights. She wants war and big government spending, although she is not running for president, it is very likely that McCain may not last and despite that he is not the best character of judgement in my book.
Regardless of who you support though, I ask that you do your homework and take some action. I refuse to sit back and let others decide for me. Although I may only be one vote, I know I did my part. Vote this election on November 4th, 2008.
