Enzymes are complex proteins produced by all living thing. Enzymes are substances that help carry out a number of the body's function like transforming food and chemical elements into other needed substances.Enzymes helps eliminate toxins in the colon, kidneys, liver, lungs and skin.

Like all proteins, enzymes consist of chains of amino acids linked together. The amino acids with in each kind of enzyme have a characteristic arrangement. The bonds between the different amino acids in the chains are weak and may be broken by such condition as high temperature or high levels of acids. When the bonds are broken, the enzymes become non-functional and disease sometimes occurs.

Enzymes can be obtained from fruits and vegetables like ; mangoes, avocados, papaya, asparagus etc. When vegetables are cooked or boiled, the enzymes can be destroyed since they are very sensitive to heat.

ASE ending of the enzymes refers to the element on which it acts, e.g. Lipase means that it acts on lipids, phosphatase means that it acts on phosphorus.

The most well known and important enzymes are the digestive enzymes:

  1. Amylase - contained in saliva. Splits the carbohydrates in order to be assimilated by the intestine.
  2. Protease - contained in the gastric juices. Splits proteins so they can be digested.
  3. Lipase - secreted by the pancreas. Split fats into fatty acids so that it can be digested.

These enzymes can be taken as nutritional supplements and obtained in natural food stores.

Co-enzyme-Q10 - very similar to vitamin E, a powerful anti-oxidant. It is also important in increasing the immune system's efficiency. Elderly persons should increase their dosage of this enzyme because the production of Co-enzyme-Q10 in the body decreases with time.

Lecithin - a substance that has the ability to emulsify and dissolve fats. It is essential for muscles and nerves, as well as the brain.

Lecithin is mainly formed of : Choline, Inositol, B Vitamins, and linoleic acid. It is indispensable for dissolving fats in the liver and helping dissolve liver stones that are forming.
