It usually takes about thirty days to start seeing a difference in your credit score, so the sooner you start the better. When you want to improve credit, the first thing you should do is find out your current credit status. If you don't know that, then you can't have an improve credit score.

Helpful Hints

Here are a few helpful hints on how to salvage your credit and boost it up.  Most of these steps are fairly easy, it's just a matter of taking the time to do them.  With anything, self discipline and self motivation are the key to turning your life around whether it be financial or anything else.  Here are those hints:

  1. Check all three reports from the three credit bureaus.  They each get their information from different sources so in order to get a more complete and current look at your actual credit score you need information from all of your sources.  You can access these reports free once every year by going online and requesting them.  If you do it by mail or over the phone it can take up to fifteen days.
  2. Once you have your report check it for any irregular or bad credit marks.  Once you have looked over each and every one of these make sure they are correct.  If they are not then challenge them.  More often than not a credit reporting agency will have made a mistake or two and a simple cancelling of this mistake can raise your score a bit.
  3. Cut down your credit card bills.  If you have high balances it can affect your debt to income ratio and make you look like more of a risk than other people.  This will affect your score and won't help improve credit rating.
  4. When applying for a loan make sure you ask the loan everything that he needs from you on how to improve credit score.  Also make sure you know what he is all looking at for the loan, find out if he uses all three reports from the credit bureaus or just one.  They shouldn't have any problem releasing that information to you.
  5. Be careful of co-signing.  Co-signing can be a bad choice if you pick the wrong party to sign for.  Usually only leave this for responsible kids or close and trusted family and friends.  Otherwise it can really hurt your credit.

Well these are just a few of the hints to help repair credit.  Check out the links above to find more information on improving credit.
