There are many ways to improving your self esteem. One effective way is with the use of a technique known as Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT.

When you have low self esteem, you do not feel good about yourself. You have that little voice in your head that says that you are not good enough. Improving your self esteem can change what that little voice says. When you start to feel good about yourself, others will naturally also feel attracted to you. You also begin to attract more positive outcomes in your life.


Low Self Esteem From Negative Programming In The Past

You must first recognize that you have low confidence in yourself to begin with. Improving your self esteem has to be done with an understanding that what you feel today is related to how it has been in the past. Too often negative thoughts get imprinted while you are still in the early years of our lives.

Words were said to you by figures of authority (such as parents or teachers) in the form of hostile, tense or sad statements. Sometimes, their body language said it all. You made an imprint in your subconscious mind when you concluded, from their words and body language, that you are simply "not good enough" and "will never be good enough".

Through the years, you look for situations to continually affirm to yourself that you are no good. Often enough, you interpret well meaning words as attacks on your ego, when it may not be really the case. As a result of the negative programming, you develop low self-confidence, fail, become unhappy and ill, and the list goes on. It should not come as a surprise for you that very few things go right for you in life. You feel unworthy of love when you cannot even love yourself. You may also find that you settle for less than what you truly deserve.

Improving your self esteem requires you to become aware of destructive and unreasonable thoughts. Usually, the first ones that should go are thoughts that say "you're no good" or "you're not capable of doing this or that." However, it may be hard for your negative thoughts to be removed quickly, without any intervention (such as EFT).

What Is Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT?

EFT is a method founded by Gary Craig, to help release negative emotions. He describes the technique as emotional acupuncture without needles. This simple process is based on the idea that...

"Negative emotions result from a disruption in the body's energy system."

A disruption in the energy system of the body can even cause a deterioration in physical health.

EFT essentially involves tapping your energy meridian points on the body with your fingertips, thereby stimulating a release and for healing to happen.

EFT is nothing new, since it is based on acupuncture from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Where EFT involves just tapping with your fingertips, acupuncture requires the use of thin needles to stimulate the meridian points.

EFT is also confirmed by scientific discoveries that have evolved as quantum theory, which draws the connection between energy and matter. Quantum theory proposes that everything, including physical beings, is made up of energy.

Amazingly, EFT can produce miraculous results in an instant or at least, great strides in several sessions. There are already several thousand testimonials about its effectiveness in cases ranging from post traumatic disorders, stress, high anxiety, anger, fear, allergies, back pain, etc. Needless to say, improving self esteem can also be made with EFT with astonishing beneficial results.


My Experiences With Improving Self Esteem Using EFT

I wanted to attract more abundance into my life. But no matter how hard I tried or how much effort I put into my work, I made little headway in terms of success. Each step was a struggle for me. It was like walking with a ton of bricks tied to my legs. I soon realized that before I could get abundance, I had to first address my negative blocks. Essentially, they were holding me back from achieving my best.

I identified that I had thoughts like I was "not good enough to have more abundance", that "other people can do it but I can't" and that "I cannot cope". I then realized that many of these thoughts were formed when I was a child. While I could not change my past, I was determined to alter my negative thoughts so that I can have a better future.

During each round of using EFT, I would first start with tracing back why I am saying a negative statement about myself. It might be that I recalled an incident when I was five years old or ten years old. So I would tap myself on the meridian points, while saying the words that "even though I feel so small due to what this person said to me, etc etc, I deeply and completely love and accept myself". From a scale of 10 in terms of intensity, my negativity will drop to zero.


Giant Leaps In Improving Self Esteem

Improving self esteem has not been an overnight thing for me. There were several imprints that I made, which I needed to remove. But it was EFT, which helped me in making the leap forward in terms of healing.

And it can do for you too. Having a low self esteem can pervade every thought you have. When you have a poor self image, your negative beliefs can every relationship you have with others. You find yourself quarrelling or in constant struggles all the time.

There is no doubt that changing ingrained patterns of thought is a monumental task. Years of habit of thinking negatively need to be worked upon; so that layer by layer, healing can happen. Sometimes, a single session of EFT can chop down one tree; sometimes, one fall can bring down several trees. Without EFT, you may just be chipping the bark of the branch.

Improving self esteem requires you to overcome your thoughts of defeat, failure, and hopelessness. EFT is one useful method that can free you of your negative thoughts. It can be the answer in helping you build a better and more positive world for yourself!

I saw about EFT on YouTube before. I use it every morning and before I go bed. Its true it makes you feel better. I also think that this is more like the law of attraction being applied. Accepting yourself could lift up your self esteem and you could live life without boundaries.

Thank you for your nice comments. I was a sceptic but now use EFT extensively for a whole range of issues. I think it helps to be able to be free of the many negative emotions that have held us hostage for the longest time and to make decisions more calmly.

I am trained in using EFT - Did my trianing years ago but mainly use it on myself/kids and the gold fish! I had someone get in touch this week about me helping her so I must still be on the website. I have moved away from doing this work now but I find it fast and effective. Great hub.
