Details, Details, Details

You might be asking yourself, "With the thousands or even millions of other pages out there on the same topic as the Hub I'm writing now, how on earth will I ever get any visitors?"

This was answered somewhat in the Long-Tail of Search Traffic. Short answer: You're trying to get some of those unique search queries to come to your Hub, of which there are millions every day. So going after a specific topic that addresses the search query "debt consolidation dover delaware bad credit cards mortgage" and its many variations might be a better strategy than writing a general Hub that addresses "debt consolidation" in broad strokes.

What this also means is that your Hubs should try to include as many details as possible about the topic, in order to match one of those one-off, really specific queries. This is at least as important as making your Hubs read well.

Remember, people searching in search engines and landing on your evergreen Hub are looking for specific information, and value finding answers to their questions far more than your writing flair.

Let's take an example: let's say you're writing a Hub on the Coachella Valley Music Festival (about half a million pages indexed by Google on the subject). Instead of going on about how wonderful the festival is, how great the music sounds, and other commentary that doesn't include the types of words that people are searching on, you might want to include details on the past and future line-up, the location/setting, the types of music genres featured, links to ticket sources, etc.

Are there some things about the festival that most people don't know about, that they might find useful? Like nearby free parking, shuttle services, nearby bargain hotels/motels, outdoor lodging, and parties & bars nearby, etc. These are the kinds of terms a few people will likely be searching for along with the main search term "Coachella".

Another strong opportunity is in comparisons. Compare products, vacation destinations, financial terms, business services, online dating sites-whatever your topic is. People are always wondering if something is better, different or the same as something else and turn to Google for answers. Most of the Web pages out there, however, only deal with single topics without any comparison. For example, search queries like "bellagio venetian wynn", "mutual funds cds", "eharmony match.com", and "pilates yoga" are much more common than you might think.

Using Google's keyword tool can sometimes help come up with ideas for tangential topics to cover in your Hubs:

Other times, your own personal depth of experience in the area and intuition are also great guides.

So the quick takeaway is DETAILED, IN-DEPTH and COMPARISON is far better than BROAD and GENERAL.
