In the face of the Impossible, be Inspired
91
Before You say No, Think yes
When faced with the impossible it is easy to quit, to give up, and go home. In fact it's what's expected of us. It's the rational thing to do. We are told throughout our lives to be reasonable, to be realistic, to be grounded. We are told there are just some things that can't be done. We are told there are some dreams that are just too far, too tough, too hard. Look at the world around you, take it in, soak it up, let the stories of countless achievements wash over you like a river. How many things has man accomplished that others said couldn't be done? How many times has one man dared to do, and changed the course of history? How many men have beat the odds, cheated death, and walked away victorious? Throughout history regular people have come to the proverbial wall. Standing there in the shadow of impossibility these men did not turn around head hanging low, beaten, and defeated. These people, these brave souls stood tall and with determination and heart chose to see what could be. In the face of the impossible they were not intimidated but inspired.
The other day I was watching the latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy." Usually I don't pay much attention to this prime-time soap opera. I watch more out of habit and for pleasant memories of falls gone by. Some of the women on there are pretty hot too I must admit. This time though something was said that hit right to the heart of the matter and struck me like a tidal wave; washing away weeks of sullen anger and resentment in a moment. One of the characters, on the show, said something that shook me. "In the face of the Impossible, be Inspired." he said.
All throughout time men have been faced with impossible situations and circumstances beyond belief. Today we are presented with no less daunting challenges, then our forefathers. In the face of unemployment, poverty, and desperation, we are told to dig in, tighten the old belt, and hope for better times. Looking around at the growing misery and desperation one might be tempted to think that prosperity is impossible, and success a pipe dream. Many of us will shelve our dreams and bury hope in the name of reality. I beg you though before you do, to stop, and wait just a moment. Look again at the life around you, at the things you want, and dream about. Think about those things, but just before you get to the point of no, where life creeps in and threatens to shut it down, stop and say yes.
Your dreams may seem impossible right now. It may seem as if there's just no way, no hope, no chance. Don't give in though. I don't care what you see or what your senses tell you, your senses can mislead you, your logic blind you. Success isn't something you can think your way through you have to believe it first. You have to see it, before its there, and know it's yours before it is. Before you tell yourself it can't be done, take a moment to imagine it can. Once your mind is set on something it will soon bend all its will to making it happen. Impossible things become possible everyday. People survive the unsurvivable, and accomplish the improbable all the time, because they believed they could, because they refused to be defeated.
I stand here today telling you that anything is possible. What one man can do so can another. What you can imagine can be accomplished. In the face of the Impossible, be inspired. Dare to do, walk where others will not go, and dream the foolish dream of hopes and aspirations. Will you look at the world around you and think of what could be? Will you stand before the wall of impossibility and turn around, or will you find a rope, tunnel under, go around, or just go through? When we decide to do a thing no matter what the odds, our minds will find a way. We may not succeed the first time or even a hundred times, but one day with perseverance, and persistence we will see the impossible achieved.

Indeed it is. Those who dare do, just ask the British SAS.
To dream the impossible dream/ To fight the unbeatable foe... that's a wonderful call to action hub, Scott! 'When we decide to do a thing no matter what the odds, our minds will find a way' - how true!
Inspiring - and true! Thank you, Scott. :)
Great hub, as always, Scott. Very inspirational!
Tenacity is a great quality.
Dear Scott,
Fantastic inspiring hub. Great advice and wisdom for our troubled times. You rock!
One of the best things any teacher or educational administrator said to me was that I'm the "number one person in my life." I thought about this several times during the course of my life and must be reminded of this every now and then...Sometimes we have to be selfish in that we have to "do for us" before anyone else.
You continue to inspire, Scott. Keep it up and don't let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish your goal!
You should be a motivational speaker - or are you? It is so important to have dreams and goals and go after them - great advice!
Good prose - might be a stronger hub with some examples. Douglas Bader would be an inspiring example of the attitude you have described so well.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this hub, it definitely lift your spirit when you think that is it. You are great. Thank you for wrting and sharing.
Interesting piece.A refreshing way to freshen up long-forgotten truths.Keep it up!
@Advoco, I had thought about giving examples, but you are supposed to be the example. This is for everyone that reads it. For everyone that reads this, let your own life be the example.
Well Done, Bravo! I have to hand it to you, if any one of us hubbers will make it then it will certainly be you! Everytime I read your inspirational and positive works I leave the hub with an energized feeling. You should think about becoming a professional speaker....=)
...."Impossible things become possible everyday"--
You are so very right about that Scott!
I am energized and inspired once again after reading this truth filled hub of yours.
Great inspirational piece here, Scott. You are dead on the truth. Countless individuals, and whole communities and nations have overcome the seemingly impossible. Thanks for the fine read.
Ah, a challenge! Perfect time for me to read this. Good kick it the butt for me Scott, thanks.
Hi Scott.
Being inspired in the face of the impossible is admirable.
It is easier, more safe even, to fall back and cling to what you have instead of risking something away.
Too many of us are feeling the desperation you write about. Folks are being pushed too hard and for too long.
In my case, there is nothing left to cling to. It's not inspiration I'm feeling in the face of the impossible, it's anger. But, I think hope and rage have a similar effect when it comes to motivation.
If you overcome your fear to take a single step forward, why not go ahead and take two steps?
Your fear was already gone when you took the first one. :-)
I felt that there was nothing left to hold onto a few weeks ago, but then i realized that I was waiting for the world to give me an opportunity. Once I decided to go out and make my own things took off. Now I'm enrolled in College. Orientation is this week and classes start in a month. In eight years I'll be a doctor. That's my only acceptable outcome. One way or another I'll get there. I had forgotten something I learned as a young marine. For those who are willing to give it all, there is always a way.
Thank you writing this, and reminding all of us about what is good about life. :) The universe always provides.
Good luck in school. Congratulations on taking steps to get where you want to be. This was a wonderfully written much needed reminder.
When you can't go any further - Take one more step
I hear it, I know it, I believe it, I have lived it, I am living it. When my children were growing up I hung a sign I had made on their bedroom door. Never say I can't, you can and you will! They are such go getters in life now,
Thank you for the wonderful post.
wow wow and wow, once again you amaze me with your wonderful writing are you published yet?

Wow Scott! Thank you for putting out this incredibly compelling and well written hub. So powerful and so true..."You have to see it, before its there, and know it's yours before it is." I really agree, it's the law of the universe.
