Forget the Little Blue Pill, Bring On The Blue Sheets.

An old Mexican wives tale insists that on their wedding night the newly weds should retire to a bed laiden with blue sheets as it is said to make the groom more virile.

It seems a rather abstract attention to detail, the colour of bed linen to increase virility.

Maybe it’s not actually that random. Marketing psychologists have found that consumers make up there mind about a product or a setting in less then 90 seconds. And in this time most (between 62% and 90%) made their decision on the colours used, either on a product or in the environment.

Colour Me In

Examples of successful colours in marketing include:

  • Black print on yellow as the most effective for flyers and posters as it attracts attention.
  • Green is used in hospitals and other health institutes as it speeds recovery.
  • Reds, yellows and oranges in fast food restaurants as it promotes consumption of food at a faster rate.
  • Blues and green in restaurants provide a more leisurely environment.
  • Many jails are painted pink as it has a positive effect on violent and or angry prisoners.

Sing The Blues

So now back to the blue sheets. Researches have shown that blue has a calming effect as it decreases heart rate, and a bridegroom who is relaxed and confident is more likely to perform better than a stressed anxious one.
