The Eternal Question on the Web
This question has been asked many times, and will be asked and answered again and again. Each writer will have his/her own view on the subject.
I am not the expert on this subject, as I am still a newbie to some extent. I am involved in internet marketing, and the issue of getting traffic to websites and blogs is one of the hottest topics on the internet. Getting more traffic to hub pages is the same issue as for any blog or website but with a twist.
When we want more traffic to our blog or to hub pages, you should ask yourself a number of question? Why do I want traffic? What is my intention with this traffic?
Do you want the traffic for conversion to sales? Or do you want to build a relationship with the readers via comments?
How to look on Hub Pages
Before going in to the issue of traffic to hub pages specifically, just a few words on traffic in general.
The ABC for driving traffic to any blog are content, web 2.0 interactive blogging, multi-media blogging, bookmarking, linking, social networking and keywords. Getting traffic to anything on the internet is an active activity. No sitting around with the hands in your lap.
Hub pages is one of the better, if not the best, site for writing and submitting articles. Each hub is a mini site, and should be treated as such. This means that you should use all tools, as stated above, to drive traffic to your page.
It has a very high ranking and is a favorite of search engines, because of the constant traffic and the constant submission of new content, and generally valubale, unique content..
Hub pages has one advantage over private blog, which is that it that it is also a social networking site, and should be treated as such. When you combine strategies for both, you can create an unlimited source of traffic.

How to attract more traffic to Hub Pages
Keeping the above in mind there are strategies unique to Hubpages that are not useful to a general blog. There are also strategies that both blog and hubpages have in common. Below is a listing that includes both.
1. Only submit quality, unique articles
As said above this is the ABC of all article writing and blog posting. Being unique does not mean that you have to invent the wheel. Often the same topic comes up in multiples places. Unique means that you have written it and not copied it from somewhere else. Unique means writing in your words and your style.
Always make sure that you are using proper language, grammar and spelling. All article submission sites will rate the article based on content, language, grammar and spelling.
2. Topics
Some people say to write predominantly about hot topics. There is something to say for that. But choosing a hot topic is not a good idea, if you don't know anything about it. Since keywords is an important aspect of getting traffic, the hotter the topic the greater the competition.
3. Seach for other hubbers with similar interests to you (at least in the beginning)
Hubpages has a number of tools for finding and communicating with other hubbers, such as listing of all hubbers and the forum.
4. Become a fan of other hubbers
Just go through the hubbers. Read the blub, sorry bio, and one or two articles, and if you like what you have read, click the "join so and so's fan club". Hubbers love to be selected (as all humans do). It makes us feel popular and that we have something worthwhile to say.
5. Leave quality unique comments.
Comment of low quality would be: Great Hub. Write about what the article did for you, what you learned. We all love comments. Comments is an excellent way of communicating, of building relationships. We all love comments. It shows that our hub is being read, and that the reader got something out of it, even if it is total negative critique.
6. Expand your sphere of influence
If you know other hubbers or have friends outside hub pages with different interests to yours and you come across an article that you think may interest your friend, send out a referral. Both sides will love you.
7. Create a good bio.
My suggestion is to keep it short, include your interests, and make it light. Why? Judging from myself, I don't want to spend a lot of time reading bios. The bio is not the place to give your full life story. The bio is to convey the most important points about yourself.
8. Create a subscript
A subscript should be in a seperate text module. You are allowed two links to outside sources (I think). These links can and should create traffic from outside hubpages to come to your pages.
9. Be active in the forums.
Forum activity will give you better hub ranking. The higher your hub ranking the more exposure. Forum activity is another form of social networking.
10 Social Bookmark
Social bookmark all of your hubs. You should also social bookmark all hubs where you leave good quality comments. Both instances will drive traffic to your hub as well as the one you commented on. The more traffic you are responsible for, the higher ranking your hubs will get. The higher ranking you have, the more exposure you will get. The more exposure you have, the more traffic you will get.
Final Strategies
The internet is a tool. Hubpages is a tool. The combination of the two can provide powerful strategies for driving traffic not only to your hubpages but also to your blog. When used in the right way this is advantageous to both sides.
Another advantage of course is that the more traffic to hub pages or to blog, the more greater the likelihood of good conversion into money. Something that will make us all smile.
If you are wondering how I know this after such a short time on hubpages, it is because of my involvement with the WEST program

Hey Birte, very detailed article. How long have you been with the West Program? I have never heard of that yet. I see that they have free videos, does it cost much to get involved in the later stages of the program? I would love to see a review on this program if you are comfortable with that? It is nice to hear about programs that are actually working for people I know. :-)
