You've started your blog and now want to get traffic to your blog. So how do you increase your blog traffic? One method is to ping it. This alerts the search engines that you have updated. A good pinging service to use is Ping-o-Matic.

Ping

To use Ping-o-Matic add your blog's name, URL, and RSS feed URL . The last addition is optional, but a good idea. It pings 23 services and an additional 5 services, if your blog fits well with them.

Small sites or blogs that post articles and information related to your blog's topic are good sites to link to and they are more likely to link back. They are trying hard to build more traffic and are very concerned with their traffic stats. Link to a small site and the owner will probably link back without a request to link back. Check back later to see he/she linked to your blog.

You can join LinkShare for free and find related sites to link to, plus they will notify you when someone has a link request for you. Sometimes people make a link request and their site's topic is eons away from your blogs topic. But you get some related requests too. Accept the good ones and reject the others. Place an offer to exchange links in the links portion of your blog.

Search Engines

Submit your blog to search engines. You can submit your blog to search engines with Submit Express for free and it will submit your blog to Google, Yahoo, and numerous meta search engines. Meta search engines aren't web crawlers; when a search is done through them, they send searches to multiple search engines instantly. They compile the results for you on one or more pages.

Post frequently to your blog. This keeps readers coming for more and it attracts search engine spiders, which will index your site often. If you get 7000 views each month from one search engine and 1% become regular readers, you have 70 new returning followers from submitting your blog on one particular month. The rule is to submit your blog once a month. Submitting more than that is called spamming and you can get banned by search engines.
