India's foray into IT is no accident, it was part of a long term strategy. In late 70's and early 80's UN was planning to develop several nations economy. The good source of it was seen in service sector and in IT. This was passed on as an agenda to several nations and India's Planning commision (probably headed by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam) picked it up as one of the growth area and put in lot of thrust. The result was a higher focus on computer education throughout the nation. The current focus of UN is to reduce poverty.

On outsourcing, what get outsourced? The one that is not a core competency of the firm or not part of the strategic growth for the firm. As an e.g. several functions of HR gets outsourced frequently. The reason to outsource is based on cost, the need to focus on what best the firm does, price wars due to competition. The vendor to outsource is selected based on the expertise, availability of talent etc.. Outsourcing is not offshoring, ulimately to pinch few more bucks to cut cost, the firms send the outsourced work to offshore. Sometimes due to logistics the offshoring becomes near shoring like GMs manufacturing units in Mexico or Canada.

India is looked at as a primary source of Knowledge based offshoring for low cost, abundance of resource pool and stable political system. From being only a back office, India has moved up the value chain stepping into product design and more value added services. China is looked at as offshoring for manufacturing, like Taiwan and Korea for making electronic goods. Will India be uncontested in this field? Quiet likely not, China is fast catching up and all British colonies are competing neck to neck with India, but the sheer volume gives India a big advantage.

Dear mr. Trsmd,

Your effort in solving the pension issues of Ex-service men has been commendable in deed.

Here I have my own details I retired from IAF on 31 Aug.2002 as JWO of group X and having a basic of Rs. 5910/- at that point of time with a service of 20 yrs.

My basic as was fixed was Rs. 3141/- plus DA as applicable(45% then) minus commutation almost the same amount.

Could you please help me with understanding my present Basic and gross pension along with amount of both the instalments of arrears.

I shall really be obliged.

Your

Mandy
