The bridal wear worn by the women in old days were very heavy and cumbersome. But, the contemporary bridal clothing items are totally different from their prior counterparts. In the modern context, the bridal wear are modified to give them an elegant look together with the traditional touch. They are light weight, comfortable to wear and looks gorgeous. They enhances the beauty of the bride many a time, and that is all that matters on the day of marriage. The common fabrics which are used for fabricating bridal wears in India include silk, satin, rayon, chiffon and cotton among others.

Unlike the western bridal wears, Indian bridal wears are mostly red in color. Also, they have a lot of embroidery, sequin and patterns work done on them. The primary types of Indian bridal clothing include:

(1) Sari: The bridal sari is not an ordinary sari. They are of special type. They are made with fabrics like silk and chiffon. They are usually of red color like other Indian bridal wears, as red is regarded as a color of good luck and fertility in the Indian culture.

(2) Lehenga: Lehenga is another prominent Indian bridal wear, also known as Ghagra. It is more widely used than any other bridal wear in India. They are more commonly used in Rajasthani and Gujrati weddings. They are again mostly found in red color. They are also a little heavier than the sari.

(3) Salwar Kameez: However, they are not so common a bridal wear like Sari and Lehenga, yet they are being used in many marriages. Usually, they are seen in the Sikh marriages. Sikh brides used to wear a salwar kameez. The advantage of this bridal wear is that they are comfortable to wear.

No doubt, bridal wears are an important clothing item. In a country like India, where marriage is a systematized and an important occasion, they hold an even important place. They are the pride of an Indian bride. They are an exclusive and evergreen item of clothing which will remain in great demand in the times to come.
