Project Morfeo - One does it All
An Unusual Find - Dicotomia
The face of Indie is changing every day, and with the approaching winds, comes a new breed of Indie artists. Not only are there rockers, but also mixers, rappers, and even slang poets. When I first came across Project Morfeo, I was not expecting to discover a stash of organised, well-composed, and greatly emotional compositions in their album Dicotomia.
Who is Project Morfeo?: Project Morfeo is mainly composed of one person, Gianfranco Biagini, who mixes, composes, edits, tracks, synthesizes, and most importantly also executes vocals. Filippo Mastrangelo is the group's guitarist, ripping out insane guitar solos, when the rifts are not composed or synthesized. Dicotomia was recorded in Rome in 2005, influenced by bands like Paradise lost, Type-o-Negative, Tiamat, Charon, Beseech, and Dream Theater. Project Morfeo was signed by the German based Trostlos Records, seeking to create a distinct and unique sound, described as "melancholic heavy metal."
Album Review: With the final product released, the album is a gothic tincture imparted on a rich electronic fabric. The album starts off appealing to your senses with a lightly violent rock, before Biagini change the tables and sends the listener rocketing into an unending sacrosanct sort of environment that feels oddly safe and warming. Although the album directs your senses and feelings in wild directions, the music does not consume your thoughts, but instead guides you through a unique experience.
Insight: In my opinion, the most appealing and enticing song from the album Dicotomia is "She is Pain". A composition for the unweary, it is brilliantly organised to enhance the listening experience. It starts off with somber piano, and slowly evolves into a full-scale guitar solo that mourns loudly but not overwhelmingly from professional fingers manipulating strings.
Popular within certain circles in Europe, Dicotomia is at a low price of 14.99. Hopefully with the support of Project Morfeo's enthusiastic fans, they can finally get their shot at making it mainstream in other continents, and their name will be one to be remembered for years to come.

Inward Eye - Emerging Indie Rockers
Born from the Kings of Music
"Inward Eye!" Their name is more likely to be recognized each day that passes. The young and proudly Canadian band has shown us once and again, that there is hope for unheard of artists to emerge as full-scale masters of music. As beautiful rifts scream from their guitars, fans know that the three Erickson brothers were not creatively born from nothing.
The youngest brother Anders recalls, "at age 5, my brothers and I became obsessed with our Dad's old vinyls in the basement. The Rolling Stone’s “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out” was our introduction to rock n’ roll, followed by “Who’s Next”, “London Calling”, and “Something Else” by The Kinks." The three brothers also got their hands on some Green Day, The Clash, The Who, Holland-Dozier-Holland, The Jam, Smoke Robinson, and finally the Rolling Stones, all legends of rock.
Influenced by such great artists, did the Canadian band grow into the high-voltage, rebellious rockers that they are now. Since the brothers only shared one guitar when they were children, Anders, being the youngest, would get no share of the prized Spanish guitar. He would be forced to improvise playing drums by smashing pots and pans. One day, his parents became so fed up, that they decided to buy the brothers working instruments. Thus the band came to be.
Personally, my favorite from Inward Eye's is their "Shame", a masterpiece which starts up as a straight-up guitar riff and evolved into a snotty shuffle with yelped vocals, giving a foreboding and overarching theme of dissillusionment. Dave commented that "the high vocals were a sort of hook" and Kyle added "I think a lot of our lyrics are about a new awareness of our surroundings as young men growing up in a scary world."
Now as the world finally sees Inward Eye's talent from their popularity on iTunes, they are aware of their famous wildly energetic live gigs. After a WAARP tour in the UK, the band is ready to pave their way into the halls of fame.
For the band, brotherhood always comes first. "There is not one decision that is made by one person, it has to go through all of us, right down to notes I sing or a drum beat Anders plays. We are a true band."
