MADISON – The Madison Area YMCA at 111 Kings Road is offering a variety of events in December for families, teens, senior citizens and adults to fend off the winter chill and enjoy themselves during a magical time of the year.

Winter is a wonderful time of the year for family bonding as the cool breeze prompts everyone to gather indoors to get warm and cozy. Since everyone is stuck indoors it is best to find activities for the kids to enjoy so that they do not get bored and would start demanding to be let out in the cold. Here are some wintertime indoor activities that you can do with your kids and have fun.

First of all you should bring your kids to the kitchen and start baking cookies. They will definitely have a blast helping you out and would even make them feel all grown up now that they are dealing with real food. Kids can learn a lot of things by helping out and baking cookies is a fun way to help out in the kitchen. Here is how you can do this activity:

  • Let your kids sit on the kitchen bar stools around your kitchen or around the table if you do not have a kitchen bar.
  • Give each of them their own task involved in making the cookies. One can measure the ingredients, the other can mix the dough etc. or you can make the dough yourself and let them form the cookies.
  • Then you can make the kids help you clean up by wiping the table, wiping dry the pans used, etc.

Your kids will surely have fun eating their own creations and will be very proud of this achievement.

Another way to make them enjoy being indoors in the winter is to spend the afternoon coloring pages. This fun and creative activity can make your kids learn a lot of things when it comes to color and shape recognition. Here is how you can facilitate such an activity:

  • Clear the table and cover it with newspaper so that your kids will not mark the table with crayons.
  • Give them coloring pages. You can give them individual coloring books but sometimes they can fight over which has the best coloring book so the best option would be to go online where you can print coloring pages. You can let your kids choose their own images so there will be no fighting.
  • Make sure that you compliment everyone’s artwork and display them in your fridge so that they can feel proud of their masterpieces.
