Sometimes I wonder if the digital music revolution really was the best thing to ever happen to us.  Yes, it is true that most of us have terrific playlists on our iPods or other MP3 players, or even our cellular phones, but only the user of that particular playlist  and is playing it on their headphones.  In other words, our music is a little two personal, so there is hardly external music anymore.

Unless we want to branch out our headphones, most of us require an external speaker to share or music with others.  Of course, you could get an iPod dock for that, such as the Sharper Image Rotating Speaker System, but you might want to consider another product form the Sharper Image collection with the Sharper Image Indoor Outdoor Wireless Speaker.

All you need to do is hook up your music player or even laptop to the dock, which works via the headphone jack and attached wire.  Then you can plug the dock into the wall.  This dock acts as a transmitter to the speaker, which can be placed anywhere within 160 feet from it.  The speaker must be plugged in, or it can run off 4 D batteries.  Oddly enough, there is no way to bring batteries to the transmitter/dock.

From there, your audio transmits wirelessly, for some terrific sound.  It is designed for both indoor and outdoor usage.  It has a weather-resistant coating which makes it good for a few drops of rain or splashes.  I probably would not leave it out in heavy rain.

This wireless stereo speaker is perfect for outdoor parties.  This way, you can leave the music on the inside, and take the speaker on the outside for everyone to hear.

The volume controls for the speaker are located conveniently on top, or the user has the option of just turning up the iPod, MP3 Player, laptop, or whatever the transmitter deck is plugged into.   It’s too bad that the controls atop the speaker don’t have the option of skipping or rewinding tracks.  However, I’m not bad-mouthing the product.  After all, you can plug it into a laptop or anything with headphone jack.

Still, the transmitter appears to be made for an iPod or iPhone, which is still apparently the leader on the MP3 market.  Yeah, I don’t think that will change anytime soon.

Interested buyers should be able to purchase the Sharper Image Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker at the Sharper Image website for about $69.99.
