Approximately one out of every 250 to 166 babies will develop autism or a related disorder, which can impair a child's ability to interact socially and communicate. The brain disorder affects individuals differently, but all show abnormal responses to other people.

A child who has autism may seem very withdrawn, may not make eye contact with people, may not talk or play the way other children do or may repeat certain motions and behaviors over and over again. Repetitive behaviors occur as a result of their inability to participate in other activities. Exact cause of repetitive behavior in autistic children is not certain but it is believed that repetitive behavior is the result of abnormal development of certain areas of the brain.

Parents of autistic children are given as an example of this phenomenon. Dislocation is described as not just part of the mourning process but as the result of the disturbance of both the internal and external components that maintain ego autonomy. If your child is not yet diagnosed with autism but you have seen signs, it is advised that you observe your child’s behaviors . The problems with consultation is that it’s only for a few minutes so you might need to record these manifestations so you can show the doctor.

Sometimes when a child is diagnosed as being Autistic, it can lead to Isolation for his/her family. For example, say a clerk in a store asks a family to leave because their child is having a tantrum and it's disturbing the other customers. The mom would probably want to spend an evening talking to a good friend or relative about how embarrassed she was – just talking about it serves as a release for her.

At the same time, “families become more isolated,” as they focus on therapy for their child with autism and seem to draw away from families that are not dealing with autism. This can be a problem, and some eminent experts recommend that families “get involved in some kind of group outside the family,” perhaps one for families dealing with the disorder.

Autistic children have a hard time adapting what they’ve learned in one setting (such as the therapist’s office or school) to others, including the home. For example, your child may use sign language at school to communicate, but never think to do so at home.

In our society, an average child may not prefer to interact and play with an autistic child. The autistic child feels isolated which further complicates the problem. There are an alarming number of professionals and parents that have come to rely on educators and therapists and they may not have all the facts, yet we rely on them to have the answers for our children.

A diagnosis for autism is based on a child's behaviour and development. There are no easy medical tests to prove that a child has autism.
