Tommy Lee talks Ink not Mink
Why "Ink, Not Mink?"
Fur in the fashion industry is very controversial. Fur farming is one of the worst fates that can befall an animal. As an industry it didn't develop until the late 1800s when fashion demands put market desires ahead of huntable supplies. The majority of the world's fur farms are located in Northern Europe, with about 10% located in the United States.
In pursuit of the perfect pelt, animals are bred and raised just to be killed for their skins. They are kept in crowded, minimally-sized cages or pens and then killed as soon as they develop the desired quality of coat. Anywhere from 10%-25% of the animals die from poor conditions or disease before they can be "harvested."
The most farmed animal is mink, followed by chinchillas and foxes. Animals are killed via just about any means possible with electrocution and drowning being frequently used options as the furs are not damaged using those methods. Sadly a significant percentage of animals survive the euthasia and are then skinned while still alive.

I am glad that people are taking notice of the fur trade still. Celebrities such as Beyonce should be ashamed of this vile trade that still continues. In the UK the mink were kept in farms for the fur trade and have now been released into the wild where they decimate the local wildlife that have not known such a ferocious predator. Indeed the only real predator of the Mink in the UK is the brown rat. In the past when fur or pelts were used it because there was nothing else available and the whole animal was used in some way. This modern belief that humans look good in furs is just barbaric and stupid. Give me cotton any day.
Great Hub and a great message.
