The 10 Most Interesting Places To Visit In Hong Kong (Part 1)

At any time of the year, you will find lots of tourists at these places due to their popularities – The Peak, Star Ferry and Temple Street Night Market. The Peak in the Hong Kong Island is ranked as the most popular tourism spot in Hong Kong. The Peak offers excellent view of Northern part of the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It is a great place to begin to explore this dynamic city in Asia.

The most convenient way to visit the Peak is by the Peak Tram. The Peak Tram has served Hong Kong over the past 120 years and its service is fully computerized with extreme safety features. The lower terminus is about 10 minutes walk from J2 exit of Central MTR station. Alternately, you may take bus 15C from the Star Ferry Pier.

A visit to the Sky Terrace must not to be missed. It offers the visitors the best bird’s eye view to the Victoria Harbor, the Kowloon Peninsula and some of the small islands around Hong Kong. Besides being the great sightseeing spot, the peak offers visitors a unique shopping experience at its Peak Galleria where you can find great souvenirs for your friends and love ones.

Madame Trussauds wax museum is one of the highlights at the Peak where many wax figures of famous Hollywood stars and local celebrities are displayed.

Star Ferry is one of the most popular and common means of transportation for the locals to cross the Victoria Harbor. Star Ferry has served Hong Kong for over 100 years. Recently, Star Ferry Pier had been moved from Central to Wan Chai due to city development plan. Now the Star Ferry shuttles between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, as well as some other busy districts. Even though Hong Kong economy has taken off over the last 100 years, the ferry fare remain as low as HK$2.20 for the upper deck and HK$1.70 for the lower deck.

Star Ferry strived to provide affordable transportation to the public. It provides an excellent alternative for the commuters crossing the harbor during rush hours. Star Ferry operates from 7am to 11pm. The traveling time between 2 banks is around 10 minutes and the interval is about 10 minutes as well. Without any form of traffic jam and absolutely no noise pollution, commuters can enjoy a break from the fast paced and dynamic lifestyle with gentle sea breeze and spectacular view of the skyline of both banks of the Victoria Harbor.

Hong Kong is also well known as shopping paradise in Asia. Temple Street Night Market is popular among tourists and locals. It is the busiest flea night market in Hong Kong. It operates from the mid afternoon till 3-4 am in the morning. It is located at Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon.

A wide variety of merchandises can be found in Temple Street Night Market. Imitations of branded goods are the all-time favorites among the locals and tourists. You may find souvenirs, antiques and rare collectables in market as well. Just a word of precaution, do pay special attention to your valuables at all times in these crowded places. Pickpockets are very active in narrow and crowded market place. Using a money pouch is a good idea to secure your passport and cash. As a general guideline, never flash your cash in the public. Keep your valuables in sight at all times.

Local food stalls are another attraction of the night market. Local snacks and cooked local specialty dishes can be found along the streets. But do not bear too much expectation to the hygiene standards if you want to patronize them. Sharing table is a common practice among locals, so be mentally prepared. Cantonese Opera street performance is definitely the highlight of the night market. This cultural performance is scarce in modern society, as younger generation has shown less interest in it. Do catch a show or two if you have time to spare. That is a great way to learn about Hong Kong Culture.
