Installing Recessed Lighting
Finally, there is the installation of your recessed lights. On order to install your recessed lighting, you will need the recessed lighting kit, wire stripper, wire connectors, stud finder, drill, dry wall saw or utility knife, pliers, screwdriver, pencil and eye goggles. If you happen to be remodeling your home, do not forget to ask for a retrofit kit. If you are planning to add recessed lights to a remodeled home, the installation of recessed lights is a bit more challenging.
With all the tools needed for installation, take the stud finder and look for the place to cut a hole in the ceiling or wall. The stud finder will show you where wiring is in the wall. The cut out for the lights will be around the wiring. To cut out the shape of the lighting fixture, use a pencil and trace the outside of the fixture. With the utility knife or drywall cutter, begin cutting the place where the hole will go. Now, insert the wiring which will be connected to the fixture’s junction box. It is important that the black wire goes with the black wire. Do not cross the wire colors. If there is a green or ground wire, please match these wires together as well. Now, insert the lighting fixture into the ceiling.
Repeat this process for however many recessed lights will be installed into the ceiling or wall. The, screw the light bulbs into each recessed light and turn on the light switch.
