Stress is a part of our everyday life, so it's up to you on how you will respond to it. You can choose to think of a stressful event as a positive event or negative thing. You can fool your brain into thinking you're in some degree of control, and that will decrease the stress response.

Here are some of the effective ways to handle stress:

1. Take a Deep Breathe. During your lunch break you go to a bank to make an immediate payment for your bills that are due already and suddenly when it is almost your turn, the bank system went offline, and your boss is already calling you because you need to be at the office. During this time you are probably feeling stress. You need to take a deep abdominal breath, which will suck a huge amount of air into your lungs. Your brain detects the increased oxygen and lowers the flow of stress hormones, calmer brain waves, and the kind that are associated with relaxation. Take 3 to 6 deep breaths and you will feel a lot better.

2. Chant Positive Phrase. Always have a list of your favorite inspirational phrases that you can chant whenever you feel down. Phrases like "Everything will be ok" and "All this problem will pass and everything will be ok soon," you can repeat these phrases until you feel good. The key is to practice in advance. When you're feeling relaxed, chant your phrase softly to yourself several times. Then do it silently. "Repetitive actions like chants are a way of getting yourself into a meditative state or near enough to help your relax. Chanting positive phrases will also make you attract positive things.

3. Laugh a lot. Studies have shown that people who laughed the most while watching a funny movie registered the biggest drops in their level of stress hormones. When you're under pressure, you get trapped in a cycle of disastrous thoughts. This is so bad! Humorous thoughts allow you to regain mental control. Always have some comedy film in your car and house that you can watch whenever you feel unhappy and stress out.

4. Other activities that will instantly put you in a better mood.

  • Yoga and Exercise - run, bike do something that stimulates the endorphins in your body. By doing regular exercise you can change improve how your body look and your body will become stronger and healthier, which will make you feel different.
  • Shopping - most women find shopping to be a way to free them from stress, just make sure not to overspend, because you might feel more stress when your credit card bill arrive
  • Going to a beauty salon and spa - changing your hairstyle or getting a new color for your hair and getting a full body massage can make you feel so much better.
  • Traveling - seeing and being in a new place can give you a new perspective in life.
  • Having Coffee with friends - just talking with friends can already give you a sense of happiness.

Thanks so much for these ideas. As I also appreciate the benefit of laughter, I often walk around my office doing what I can to get people to laugh with me.

Anyway, I really appreciate your contribution. If you have the time, would you drop in at my stress-relief hub and let me know what you think? It's at http://www.hubpages.com/profile/michaelgiles
